COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Siduri is an extra-strong saison beer that has been spiced with white peppercorns and aged in red-grape icewine barrels. The pepper character is definitely present but doesn’t overwhelm this delicate creation; earthy undertones come out in the finish. . History & Style Beau’s LCBO Barrel Aged Beer Feature for spring 2014 is inspired by the art and mythology of ancient Mesopotamia. Siduri, a character in the ancient Mesopotamian work the Epic of Gilgamesh, is an “alewife” or sage female divinity associated with fermentation of beer and wine. The characteristic spiciness of the saison beer style is amped up with a judicious addition of organic white peppercorns to the recipe. Tasting Notes Siduri starts with bright white pepper aroma. The flavour profile is fruity, spicy and mildly peppery. The very dry finish exhibits some earthiness. Siduri’s complexity is delicately enhanced with an aging in red-grape ice wine barrels. Food Pairings Fish and chips, creamy pasta dishes such as carbonara, Labneh cheese Technical Specs ALC./VOL.: 10.2% INGREDIENTS: Local Spring Water, Organic Barley Malts, Organic Hops, Organic Peppercorn, Brewer’s Yeast. Bottle, about a year old. Pale orange with a white head. Interesting combination of fruit and pepper, lemon rinds, peach, light tannin, oak, wheat, strong carbonation, moderate body, slightly sweet with some booze creeping on the finish along with a fair amount of spice.

600 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy amber with a large, fluffy off-white head that remains and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. The nose has notes of pale malts, soft tart fruit, wine, oak and very subtle peppery spiciness. The flavour is slightly sweet up front with caramel malts, red wine, oak and subtle tart fruit. The pepper is actually quite subtle and appears mostly in the finish, which is long and also slightly fruity with perhaps wheat. The pepperiness builds slowly as the glass empties, but thankfully is still mild. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and above-average carbonation. Overall, a fairly simple white pepper saison which seems to take most of its character from the wine barrel and the white pepper. The base beer seems a bit simple for the style. 2014-12-24

600 ml bottle. Pours a very cloudy, almost pale brown, deep orange with a resilient white head. Aroma is peppercorn, lemon, wood. Flavor is peppercorn, fruits (orange, pear, peach), wildish, oldish and dusty. Finish is wood, wine, tart. Lingering fruit and oldish. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, average to strong carbonation. Excellent.

(Rating #5986)

pours hazy/cloudy pale yellow-greyish with a tall frothy white head showing good retention and strong lacing. cranberries and other vicious small red fruits, wheat, good proportion of acidulated - which is nice and rather uncommon, very yeasty - dusty and lemony but also few leathery and fruity bretts, peppery and floral - affirmative white and not black pepper - tingling yet slightly shy husky peppercorns, warming booze, fairly present woodsy notes but not so much wood per say - perhaps, blending with young un-aged beer was used. overly foamy carbonation - disturbing enough, light to medium body - oily, boozy, particularly dry, firmly bitter/astringent herbal-spicy-peppery finish. interestingly original and well crafted.

Pours a murky dark amber with moderate carbonation and a big white head leaving behind substantial lacing as drunk. On the nose it has grapes, some booziness and a hint of white pepper. Taste wise I’m getting wine, light tart citrus, white pepper on the swallow and licorice keeps popping up on the after-swallow. While the abv is scarily high, this is a very pleasant sipper and I would rate this Saison (a style I’ve fallen in love with this summer of 2014) as one of Beau’s best offerings ever.

Beautiful bottles with the full paper wrap around it and tag. After pouring, the foam inside the bottle continues to rise, and out of the bottle... for quite a while. The head stays still though. Big, foamy, soapy with some fluffy lace. Hazy golden colour with tiny bubble carbonation. Fruity malt nose, citrus mostly with the Belgian Ale yeast softness, vanilla and some light grass. The pepper is hard to find, but a little more in the taste. Again, the same yeast and citrus notes. Don’t feel much of the Red Ice Wine barrel aging, but goes down nicely as alcohol is very well-blended. Lots of hops in the aftertaste, lingering with a dry bitterness. Expecting a little more though.
