COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong (6.5% abv) interpretation of an Irish Red Ale. Part of the batch has been aged in wheat whiskey barrels, and then reintroduced adding subtle wood and vanilla nuances.
History & Style
Strong Patrick is based on an Irish Red, an ale style that is lightly hopped, well rounded and balanced, with a pleasant toasted malt character. A celebration of the traditional style just in time for St. Patrick’s Day!
Tasting Notes
This is a luscious, red-hued ale with a malty backbone, showcasing toasty and toffee notes complemented by some warming alcohol & whiskey flavours. These combine with underlying wood & vanilla nuances added through contact with oak.
Food Pairings
Brewmaster Matthew O’Hara suggests pairing with creme brulee, and of course some traditional soda bread and Irish stew.

2015 edition in 600 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours a deep clear mahogany brown with a little head consisting mainly of larger bubbles. The head dissipates pretty quick and leaves little lacing.

Aroma: Rich caramel malt, toffee, dough.

Flavours: Caramel, toffee, cereal, honey, grain, vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Thin with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A nice malt heavy beer although the mouthfeel is a tad on the thin side in my opinion. The aromas on this one were the best part. I love that malty caramelish smell.

Clear dark amber/red pour with large off white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, vanilla and faint nuttiness. Taste of caramel malts, vanilla, faint woodiness, touch of hazelnut. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, cloying finish. One time try only.

Like Murphy’s on steroids. Very nice warming beer, notes of burnt caramel in there. Just very very well balanced.

Couleur ambré avec une mousse résistante. Aromes de caramel, sucre, noix, vanille. C’est bien balancé. Une Irish Ale respectable!

Pours clear ruby red with a slightly foamy head. Aroma is a little spicy and malty. Beer has very little bitterness, nice thick mouthfeel, some spiciness and nuttiness. Good.

Bottle. Pours clear ruby read with small white head. Smells sweet. Taste is typical red ale with an extra sweetness. Barely any woodsy taste. Guess my expectations were a bit too high.

600 ml bottle from flaveurs d’ici A: caramel, herbacy, light whisky, toasty app: clear dark copper sparing white head t/p: med body with sweet short finish. O: OK. A Irish red ale with a small kick. Don’t expect much the wood aging, it’s pretty shy.

Arômes de malt, eau minérale, caramel léger et bois mouillé. En bouche, belle présence de sucre venant du fût de whisky. Saveurs de malt herbacé, pain brun et finale caramélisé et citronné avec une petit pointe d’amertume.
