Based on a long-lost brewing recipe from the Hudson Valley in the early 1800s, we used New York State malts and whole leaf Cluster hops (a heritage variety) to authentically recreate this heirloom ale.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with a small fizzy white head. Aroma is grassy and straw grains with some small biscuit hop presence. Taste is grass and biscuit malt with a small hop presence and a dry finish. Buddy classified it as Lug Tread with hops. Not a bad generalization.

2012-10-08. Hazy pastel orange body, small bubbly off-white head that fades. 3+ Flavour has a sweetish citrus melange, modest bitterness, very lightly astringent at times. Five Alive like citrus melange undercurrents - but not that sweet - add a quality to the bitterness that I struggle to describe. 6+ Aroma has a similar quality to it that I can’t put my finger on, vaguely citrusy/fruity herbal character but not quite that. Average plus bodied palate is under carbonated. I really enjoyed it, but it is very odd. On tap? at Brewmarket, Brick Works, Toronto

Cloudy orange pour with no head. The aroma is spicy and softly peppery. A little bit of orange peel and some spicy yeast. A bit of light clove along with some light spiciness as well. More saison than anything. Interesting.

Thanks to cfrancis for this beer. Pours a murky straw color with a small head and zero lace. Aroma is yeast with a faint lemon and soe clove. Taste is yeast up front with a sweet citrusy finish. Interesting beer that’s easy to drink.

600 ml bottle. Pours a slightly veiled straw with a short-lived white head. Smell is yeast, cereals. Taste is very sweet, yeast, sweetbread, cookie dough, malt. Finish is subtle herbal bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft, creamy mouthfeel. Good carbonation, but not aggressive in any way. Nice beer, but not quite my style.

Bottle, Beaus 2012 Oktoberfest mix pack. Straw yellow, small white head. Light floral and spice aroma. Taste is light - spicy hops, sort of sweet light malt, with a sweet finish. This actually tasted similar to the zins jo kokot we just had, but not near as good. Better than the draft ratings, but still just decent.

[4853-20121008] Cask. Strange herbal spiced lemon balm aroma. Hazy, light orange brown body with no lasting head. Something like muted raspberry in the flavour with creamy grainy yeast. Medium body. Good. (7/3/7/3/13) 3.3

Bottle from the brewery. Golden straw colour with cloudy haze and a large, bubbly white head. Aroma is yeasty and bready, with curious notes of lemon, apricot and cracked grain. Flavour has a fruitiness that strikes a balance of sweet and tart (but not tart in a lambic sort of way, more laid back than that), along with peppery yeast and well-deployed hops. Interesting...

Bottle [600ml]. Pours a hazy straw-yellow with an average size mostly-lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of straw, grain, yeast, banana, citrus, herbs and spices. Mild, fruity, slightly sweet, wheaty flavour along with grain, herbs and spices. Medium bodied. Just good, I don’t love it but its O.K. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
