Draught at Bar Hop for ’Dark Water Series 2013’. Pours a very dark brown with a small diminishing bubbly off-white head. Really nice aroma of Belgian yeast and hops along with a good amount of herbs and a touch of spice, almost like a hoppy Saison -- I didn’t know what style this was before ordering it so it was a nice surprise amongst the many Stouts and Porters at this event. Flavour, also nice, of Belgian yeast, a good amount of hops, grain, herbs, fruit and an average bitter finish. Medium bodied. This was really good, one of the highlights of the event.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 czar (2226) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 18, 2013
on tap at wellington gastropub, ottawa. unclear brown with a small light beige cap, little retention. caramel fruitiness, fruitcake, spices, very hint of roastiness, citrusy and lightly piney, leafiness and fresh hoppiness - lathough they seem to have fainted a bit. average carbonation, light to medium body, nice citrusy-spicy finish. belgium spiciness, roastiness and hops seems to not blend well to together. also, the brew seems far from a bipa. but, i did enjoy it..

Tap at Bar Hop. Deep brown-black pour with a thin white head. The nose is spicy and herbal with a touch of molasses and some pepper. A little bit of licorice and leather along with some light peppery flavour. Herbal
and sort of dried fruit character. The spice is quite muted but the yeast kind of works.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 solidfunk (1789) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 12, 2013
Another strange beaus experiment. Bipas are already a hybrid, but a Belgian bipa is too much of a wrestle. Some floral aroma but it overrides the roast malt flavor. Pours pretty black with some lacing. Carbonation a little high, finish only slighlty bitter. Other than some florals, what’s missing here is hops profile. Tap at barhop.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 A dark black saison IPA hybrid with a thin brown head. In aroma, smooth dark fruits with peaty notes, grassy rye, grassy herbal hops, nice. In mouth, fruity esters with peaty notes, rye, grassy hops, well done.
CASK: A hazed brown IPA with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a sweet solventy sweet malt with no hops, overwhelmed by the solvent. In mouth, a bitter chocolate with burned notes, grassy hops, astringent, disappointing. On cask at Ottawa Cask Fest August 12, 2012. -BLACK OUT IPA
