8 Ball - Big, Bold & Ballsy
One of our earliest recipes, we wanted to push this big IPA all the way. So we packed it full of Rye and dry hopped it for days with American hops, using old pool balls to weigh the hop sack down in the beer. Hence the name.

Go ahead and sink a few, be rude not to really.

Can from AlesByMail.co.uk. Dark amber, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, slightly yellow head. Aroma of citrus, orange, peach, passion fruit, flowers, candy, bubblegum. Tastes of grapefruit, orange, pine, flowers, grass, rye, biscuit, earth. Mouthfeel is medium to light, slick, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes bitter, dry, with lemon peel, pine, grass and rye. Not bad, but a bit too flat for my liking. Also a bit unbalanced as the bitterness and malt notes are pretty dominant, while the fruit notes aren’t very prominent. But overall still nice and quite quaffable.

330ml can from The Beerhive. Bubbly white head, some good lacing. Hazy dark amber body. Nose is malty, brown sugar. Flavour is caramel, biscuit, hops come through at the end - good balance with tea malt. Aftertaste is lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and resinous, quite think. Quite low carbonation. Really drinkable.

Bottle. An unclear one, dark amber in color and with a dense, minimal-sized white head. The aroma has lots of orange, citrus in general and a tad too much malts. Caramel hints, pine cones and some resin. There’s a spiced touch too. The flavor is a tad sweet, with caramel notes and some dark sugar and dried fruits. Nice bitterness, oranges and pine cones. Lasting bitter finish with a tad too much maltyness. Pretty nice this one, but as you probably understand, I find it too malty. 140724

At just on cool and into a shallow chalice. Must say it doesn’t look the picture of health. A muddy tawny orange with no visible carbonation and a bad case of the floaties, Head is ill to build so only a skin of beige skum tops it, Candyish, deeply floral and olfactory exciting i the nose. A whole bouquet of roses and fruit such as cumquat, blood orange, apricot, star fruit and pine apple with a lot of mango juice - sultry sweet! Sweetly nutty palate with a bitter, almost acrid backend which is resinous and deeply piney. Chewy, bready malts make it quite a filling mouthful and it does sit quite heavy in the stomach. One is enough. A hint of smoke and burnt sugar in late, almost phenolic. Lots of sweet citrus. Overall it is a sugar bomb. Alcohol remains well masked. Just couldn’t get into it. Meh!! (33cL,
