8 Ball - Big, Bold & Ballsy
One of our earliest recipes, we wanted to push this big IPA all the way. So we packed it full of Rye and dry hopped it for days with American hops, using old pool balls to weigh the hop sack down in the beer. Hence the name.

Go ahead and sink a few, be rude not to really.

From tap, half-pint, drunk in a cosy atmosphere at the splendid Craft Beer Co, Islington. Dark apricot coloured body. Spotty lacing to the glassware. Prominent aroma of citrus shells. Succulent taste character offering a mix of fresh and dried fruits added by lighter notes of spices. Lingering bitter ending. Well balanced. Brit IPA at its best (London, 26.11.2012).

Can bought at Geers. Giving a 5 for appearance because of the can, as I do with all Beavertown's beers. Malty, aged hops, nice round bitterness, it's one that grows on you.

Pours a very faintly fuzzy orange-gold with a small, frothy white foam head. Aroma holds bits of citrus, orange especially, and some lightly toasted malts. Light to medium sweet with light, toasty-doughy malts, orange citrus, very mild piney grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet finish with some mild doughy malts, more orange citrus, very mild earth. It’s exceptionally well balanced, though not terribly hoppy.

Can @ Konttori, Tampere, Finland. Medium aroma with sweet, bit sour peach. Deep orange color with medium white head and hazy liquid. Medium, soft taste with a bit sour peach. A bit artificial nuance. Narrow taste spectrum and medium hoppy aftertaste with sweet malts. Medium palate with medium carbonation. Overall smooth, very distinctive east coast IPA with some sour notes and artificial touch.

Orange beer, beige head. Hoppy nose with biscuity malt and caramel. Flavor has citric hops, some malt and dry notes. Finishes with grapefruity bitterness and grains. OK, but not great.

Big beige head. Hazy brown body with floaties toward the bottom. Resiny citric aroma with spicy mealy notes. Dry resiny spicy pine needle taste with mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dry resiny spicy citric taste with wooden floral tropical fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, hoppy with something extra. (0.33l can, from wine monopoly, Strømmen.)
