8 Ball - Big, Bold & Ballsy
One of our earliest recipes, we wanted to push this big IPA all the way. So we packed it full of Rye and dry hopped it for days with American hops, using old pool balls to weigh the hop sack down in the beer. Hence the name.

Go ahead and sink a few, be rude not to really.

Pours a hazy orangish, deep honey color with a hint of red and a rich tan head. The smell is rich, caramel, fruit, spice, over ripe vegetables, citrus. The taste is spicy, sweet rich malt, fruit, citrus ending very dry and mildly bitter. The body is medium and silky with fine carbonation. Looks and feels a bit better than it tastes though it is certainly decent.

Can - Earthy pond hops and spicy rye. Cloudy copper with a head that disappears quickly. Hoppy bitterness up front, rye spice and a bitter finish. Not bad, but the rye is overwhelmed by the bitterness.

Aroma: floral hops, light resin. Appearance: hazy amber, big creamy white head. Taste: light to medium sweet. Palate: bitters coming up, hops, resin, getting dry in the quite long finish. Overall: great IPA, very nice aroma and palate. Bottle from Beavertown Brewery Tap Room, Tottenham Hale.

33cl can from Sourced Market, St Pancras. A hazy amber pour with a biillowing caramel head; sour grainy aroma with lots of herbal hops; a sour, grainy, rye tasting body, with lots more hops; however the finish is much shorter than expected.

Can from AlesByMail.co.uk. Dark amber, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, slightly yellow head. Aroma of citrus, orange, peach, passion fruit, flowers, candy, bubblegum. Tastes of grapefruit, orange, pine, flowers, grass, rye, biscuit, earth. Mouthfeel is medium to light, slick, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes bitter, dry, with lemon peel, pine, grass and rye. Not bad, but a bit too flat for my liking. Also a bit unbalanced as the bitterness and malt notes are pretty dominant, while the fruit notes aren’t very prominent. But overall still nice and quite quaffable.

330ml can from The Beerhive. Bubbly white head, some good lacing. Hazy dark amber body. Nose is malty, brown sugar. Flavour is caramel, biscuit, hops come through at the end - good balance with tea malt. Aftertaste is lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is slightly oily and resinous, quite think. Quite low carbonation. Really drinkable.

Bottle. An unclear one, dark amber in color and with a dense, minimal-sized white head. The aroma has lots of orange, citrus in general and a tad too much malts. Caramel hints, pine cones and some resin. There’s a spiced touch too. The flavor is a tad sweet, with caramel notes and some dark sugar and dried fruits. Nice bitterness, oranges and pine cones. Lasting bitter finish with a tad too much maltyness. Pretty nice this one, but as you probably understand, I find it too malty. 140724
