[Cask at ’Cask Days 2013’.] Beer #19 of the fest. Pours brown with a spare long-lasting bubbly off-white head. Really nice aroma of dark malt, coffee, chocolate and lots of green hops -- this should be the model for all Black IPA aromas. Flavour of roasted sweet malt, a good amount of leafy hops, coffee and a moderate to big bitter finish. Alcohol totally hidden. Average to medium bodied. Very good stuff.

Where and how: Cask Days 2013
Aroma dark malts with strong backing of hops, hint of chamomile and tar. Mild alcohol felt in the aroma.
Top: medium plus sized , off-white lasting cap. No lace yet with rings on glass.
Base: murky brown ale.
Palate : medium bodied , soft textured. Lighter carbonation with long wet finish.
Taste: tad rough in its approach. Big raw citrusy (grapefruit) even spicy hop feel. Subdued sweet malts. Some alcohol heat.
Other notes rough but surely this will be delight for undiscriminating hop heads. I wish to see more balance here.

Bottle, 12C. Dark brown with a cm of light tan head. Aroma of zesty citrus, lychees, licorice, chocolate. Silky, lowish carbonation. Hard to believe it’s 7.4%. Fairly sweet mocha, licorice, light tropical and zesty citrus notes. Moderate bitterness leaves aromatics to linger. Very nice indeed.

Keg at Bat. Starts with rich chocolate and coffee before a pleasing bitter twang from hops. Closer to stout/porter than IPA on the beer sprectrum.
