Pours a deliciously thick black with an amazing hop burst rising out of the glass. Packed with the pungent fruit of citra hops the beer’s backbone holds it up well. Exquisitely balanced, with a moderate roast character letting the hops do the bittering. There is sweetness in there but exactly the right amount. This is a hell of a beer.

Tropical fruits, licorice, citrus, some overripe banana and coffee in the aroma. Dark brown to black with a tan head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium + bitter. Full body with a soft carbonation. Overall a really nice Black IPA, good balance between the styles.

Bottle at home. Has a deep brown to black colour with a big, beige, creamy head. Has an imidiate hoppy aroma with grapefruit, grassy hops, pine, oranges, leather, roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Wow, there’s a lot going on here! The flavour is hoppy with fruity hops, grapefruit, oranges and pine, and fades into roasted tones with coffee. Has a slick mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. A really tasteful and delicous black IPA. The fruity hops and roasted malt melts nicely together in this ale.

Pours a dark brown/black with a thick foamy head from a can. Has the aroma of malt and bread with just the slightest citrus hint. Has a very nice strong bitter aftertaste, the initial taste I am struggling with but is very pleasant.

Heavy and solid beer. Could have had even more of the hop. A bit hard to indicate what kind of food this beer suits the best.

Very dark brown, going on black, with a tan head. Very thick foam from a gushing 33cl can. Roasted malts and fruit in the aroma. The taste is fiercely bitter with tons of grapefruit, juniper and resinous flavours. Some roasted, burnt wood flavours. A very powerful IPA, without the intense coffee and liquorice flavours of a porter, but with some attractive roasted notes.

330ml bottle: BBD 1 Jan 15, drank outside the Wild Card Brewery Tap Room where I bought it on 13 Sep 14. Dark brown to black body with a huge taupe head that produced some impressive lacing. Interesting from the start this brew has loads going on in the aroma and taste. Fruity hops, citrus notes, roasted/toasted malts, chocolate, coffee and woody flavours abound in both senses. A very pleasant beer indeed.
