Draft. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes roasted malt, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, roasted malt, chocolate, and soy sauce, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottle with hella thanks to BenH! Pours rich opaque black with a medium dark brown head that is creamy and dissipates slowly with great residual lacing. Aroma is heavy roasty, almost burned, cigarettes, molasses. Flavor is similar, fairly strong anise, burned malts, ashtray. Light body with medium bitterness lingering through the far finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Pretty good, could do with less anise...

Keg @The Vintage, Leith. Similar to the BA version, Pours black, no head at all, almost flat.. Bitter longish finish with some raisin and a touch of chocolate. Better than the BA version in my mind.

Dark teak and dark builders tea fluffy head. Rich meaty malt, sweet molasses and chocolate, vanilla and leather. Milky coffee, rich and smooth, roast barley, leather, tobacco, ersatz coffee, low carbonation. A little heavy and sweet, needs some bitterness to cut it but generally excellent.

Opaque black - brown beer with a big fluffy tan head. Palate is viscous, airy and a little soft. The dark malt is soft and a little creamy. Dry coffee bitterness provides contrast. Trace of brandyish alcohol spice. Sweetish lactose and light plummy fruits. Semi dry finish. Overall quite a tangy beer and it could use a little less tang. Nice though. Need a BA version!
