My Bottom Line:
Roasted malts, currants and molasses slowly swirl within this Imperial Stout’s rough heaviness, before alcohol heat successfully cleans up part of the edges.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the darkness.
-Some hop resins appear in the second half.
-The finish is rather loose. The flavour profile needs some tightening up.
-The heavy residual sugars make this an obvious sipper, yet this is not compelling enough for me to seek it out again.

Bottle.

Was looking forward to this, but it took me by surprise just how good it is. Thick and rich, smooth and full, warm and long. Really good from Beavertown, easily the most impressive I’ve had of theirs. Top work fellas. 999. 1 to go. Richie, this has been a real pleasure!

33 cl. bottle sampled @ RBESG 2013. Thx! to chriso & Boudicca. Black with some mocha bubbles. Nose is huge creamy, sweet mocha, sugar, vanilla,… Taste is bitter mocha mixed with creamy vanilla, bitter roast, bitter coffee grounds, cold coffee, roasted malts. Very creamy body, great stuff. If the 2 beers I had by these guys are any indication, they are a really good brewery.

Pours a beautiful black beer with a good brown head. Smells like coffee and roasted. The taste is great. Coffee with a nice bitter finish. Good one.

33cl Bottle at RBESG ’13 Grand Tasting. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, ash, berries, hint of leather/poo, earth. Flavour is hard roasted malts, pure chocolate, caramel, earth, berries, leather, bittersweet finish with some alcohol. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Bottle at RBESG ’13 Grand Tasting. Pours pitch black with a small to medium almost dark brown head. Aroma of heavy roasted malts, some coffee and cacao. Taste has some more cocao, coffee, dark roasted malts. Nice bitter and lingering aftertaste of coffee and roasted malts, Soft carbo and a full body gives the beer a nice silky mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Bottle at the RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin tan head with an silky oily consistency. The aroma is roasted malt and coffee. The flavour is medium bitter, rich with roasted malt and dark chocolate. An amazing beer and considering the ABV the alcohol was nicely controlled. One of the best impy stouts I’ve had.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2013 Mooi donker bier met volle donkere schuimkraag. Ruikt naar koffie en toast. Smaakt erg goed met duidelijk koffie, chocola tinten. Lekker bier.

Bottled @ RBESG 2013 Grand Tasting. Licorice, blackcurrant, coffee. Bit dry, bit harsh. Typical english Imperial stout with all the dark fruits, which is not my favorite. Slight unbalanced. Still, decent stuff.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2013 Bottle @ RBESG’13 Grand Tasting @ De Molen: Served in a Molen taster: Thanks for sharing Chriso/Boudicca: Creamy yellow brown colored head that changes into a lacing on top of a pitch black colored beer. Aromas of coffee, coffee roast, coffee beans, smooth, chocolate, some raisin, thick, lovely. Flavours of coffee, coffee beans, roasted barleys, smooth, coal, tar, caramel, raisin. Hmm just awesome balanced and deep dark. Aftertaste has lots of roast, some coffee, chocolate... Low carbo, full creamy silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture. Smooth, balanced, deep, dark, thick. Awesome! And a funny label.
