This vividly flavoured stout is a great example, with powerful piny hoppy notes melding with chocolate and oozy brown malt and wafts of tropical fruit on the aroma.

A super velvety rich stout. Loads of raw cacoa and blackcurrant. Chocolate drops and cream. Bitter; not astringent or overly dry. Nice balance. Crazy drinkable. Decided to rate on International Stout Day. Why not?

Bottle at home, picked up at the brewery tap room. It pours a rich dark brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma is intense roasted malts, coffee beans, licorice and dark chocolate, overlayed by a pungent piney hoppy note and tropical fruit salad. Taste is well balanced between bitter roasty notes and sweet fruity tones. More peaches, apricots and mango, pine needles, coffee, dark chocolate and cedar wood. Rich body with creamy texture and good carbonation. Overall, this is on par with my favourite Black IPAs, very delicious.

Bottle. A very dark brown one, almost black, with a dense, finger-thick beige head leaving lacings. The aroma is quite intensely roasted, with chocolate, coffee, some dried fruits and salty licorice, and a little molasses hint. And a solid dose of piney, citrusy hops. Dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and a nice hoppy bitterness in the flavor, as well as piney, citrusy hops. Full body, soft and smooth, quite dry. Lasting roasted finish with a good bitterness and hop flavor. A bit much on the dark malt side, but sure nice anyway. 140927

Bottle at home picked up from Bottledog KingsX. Almost opaque black coloured pour with some ruby red hues when held in the light. Lively medium tan head that lasts. Aroma is rounded, slightly ashy roast, some jammy fruit and pine hops. Flavour is ashy roast, cocoa, some toasted bread, orange peel, pine hops. Palate is light and chalky, slightly thin with highish carbonation. Lingering sharp roast and citrus. Really solid, black IPA, punchy for the ABV.
