El bajo y agradable amargor que aflora en el intermedio, con sutiles matices ahumados y de caramelo de regaliz, permanece en el final. Chocolate negro y trazos herbales en el retrogusto.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, 12C. Dark brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma of roasted barley, smoke, molasses, prunes. Way overcarbonated - better after a few swirls and a wait. Taste has mocha, dark fruit, smoke that’s more reminiscent of seaweed than ham. Not bad under the fizz.

12 ounce bottle
One of my last bottles from a trip to England was shared with b3shine one night. A truly excellent smoked beer hits all the right notes and proves there is more to the UK brewing scene than boring low ABV brown ales. If Kernel or Beavertown ever make it across the ocean I expect some major buzz.
Aroma / Appearance - The heavy foamy head settles in a few seconds to a light layer. Underneath an inky black base sits restlessly. Smoked ham, ash, coffee, and malt give this a very ashy texture of a cold fire. If there is a flaw it is the feeling of being a bit heavy for 5.4%.
Flavor / Palate - Bacon, smoke, powdered sugar, and malt effortlessly share center stage. Dark chocolate and anise round out a balanced profile. More on the hammy end of the spectrum this release is refreshing. More than two might be overwhelming for a single sitting. That said grab one if you happen to find it on an trip to the UK.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Oddbins London Bridge. Pours dark brown with a thin khaki head. Nose is cured ham, vanilla bean, bakers chocolate and mild grass. Taste is very pea and ham soup like - think ham hock. Quite nut forward with dry roasted coffee beens. Very robust. Has that soy feel to it - sweet and nutty. Not bad if a little thin

330ml from Utobeer in Borough Market, London (Ł3.50):
A fairly unbalanced beer and one that featured the dreaded taste of cured ham, although thankfully not as strong as with some of the German smoked beers out there. Still not a good beer sadly.
