Panzerfaust (377), Santiago, Chile Jun 20, 2008 Allegedly a limited edition beer from Becker. Can, 350 cc
The brewer says it’s brewed with chilean hops. If it’s true, this is the first beer I try with hops from my country.
Appearance shows a flat, clean and clear amber color with a medium and evanescent white head. After a minute only thing that’s left is a decent lacing that sticks to the wall of the glass.
Aroma is a mixed bag of malt, metallic hints and some surprising herbal hops. Notes of apricots, aluminium, cardboard, lemongrass and an overall profile of southern forests. Could be very nice if somewhat cleaner. I’ll try the bottled version later.
Flavor is bittersweet with a herbal, medicinal note that moderates any malty excess but gives some uncleanness. The herbal notes attack the sides of the tongue and the malty sweetness dissapears after some seconds leaving space for the hops and the metal in the end and in the aftertaste. Much more flavor than the regular lager but otherwise nothing special.
Body is light to medium with some more thickness than the regular lager. The carbonation is fair and the mouthfeel is creamy. Refreshing but a little shy and unadventurous.
davidpl (403), Santiago, Chile Jul 5, 2008 Appearance: amber semi-copper color. Little to medium head, with ivory to beige color and good persistency.
Aroma: malty and with fruity aromatic-reminiscences like medlar and peaches. Some floral hoopy aroma. Light smells of tea and nuts.
Flavor: Dominated for the malts, with some caramel taste. Discrete fruitiness similar to ripe-peaches. Slight tea reminiscences. Light bitterness from hops (Chilean-Patagon hop?), some lasting, with floral hints.
Palate: light body and medium carbonation.
Remark: poor beer, but decent between the Chilean macros.
