yarry (350), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Apr 3, 2007 24 ounce bottle, 4.8% a/v
Pours a dark chocolate/cola brown with a thin offwhite head. Smells of malt, chocolate and a wee bit of hops. The taste is malty and rich with caramel/chocolate notes. The aftertaste is minimal with some hop bitterness. Not a bad beer. Nothing overly special either.
dmtroyer (330), Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA Aug 14, 2008 Thanks to can8ianben! Better than some dunkels I have had but this brew is especially prone to skunkiness... I don’t know if it is how the distributors handle it but there is a sour malt overtone that I just can’t quite handle. Some good sweetness, roasted malts and carbonation... I first thought it might be a schwarzbier. Paul150 (8), , Georgia, USA does not count Aug 13, 2008 Poured a dark brown with a medium dark head. Aroma was of slight roasted malts. The flavor was acceptable, though not as strong as I had hoped. There was some roasted maltiness in the flavor, but nothing overall stood out to me. Had a clean, refreshing finish, but I was left wanting a little more. This wasn’t a bad beer, but there are much better dunkels out there. Cybercat (393), USA Jul 27, 2008 A nice clear brown, almost chocolate-dark and rather appetizing. Aroma is not strong but inviting, malty with a touch of apple or pear. Flavor is rather enjoyable, mainly malty with just a hint of hops, a whisper of sweetness, and some fruity taste. Finish is smooth and refreshing. MrBeerFanatic (197), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 25, 2008 Pours a dark brown that can be seen though under a light with a
lightly fizzy tan/offwhite head. Actually it looks almost the same as pepsi or cola
Smells a little skunky and of caramel. The flavor isn’t to bad of a slight burnt malt, little caramel, and a touch of
coffee but also has a little skunkyness to it. These flavors are pretty light
and weak but it was expected from becks. Slighty smooth and a little refreshing but I wouldn’t buy it again
ethan (2), , Tennessee, USA does not count Jul 16, 2008 My first impression was that it was fizzy and flat in character and taste. Like a bad fizzy Bud. As a non-technical drinker, I just though, whew, this is bad. Could it be a pilsner? Whatever type of beer this is, I don’t like it. Calling it a dunkel is a smack against dunkels. I’ve had good old real dunkels in Germany, and they smoke this rascal. Not rich nor smooth. Sam Adams has a dark lager which destroys this.
