2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Surprisingly big sample by some Beck’s rep at the grocery store. Pours slightly darker gold than regular Beck’s from what I remember. White head. Nose shows a bit more hops (not much), more sweet grain, and more booze. How can you possibly make a 6% beer that tastes slightly boozy? Oh, that’s right, you got nothing else going on, do you?

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Transfer from BA review on 2-4-13-
Poured from bottle into a pilsner glass
Appearance – Pours a golden amber color with a big thick and creamy white head. The head fades slowly to leave a decent level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is mainly of a bready nature mixed with some light hops of a herbal nature. Mixed with these aromas, there is a slightly papery smell with only the lightest hints of any sweetness.
Taste – The taste starts out much sweeter and continued to be much sweeter then the nose let on. It began with flavors of bread and corn malt with a strong sweet flavor of corn syrup and some lighter caramel. These flavors were pretty consistent to the end where some light bitter grassy and herbal hop flavors come to the tongue leaving a mainly sweet but very lightly hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a little on the thicker side for a lager style of 6 % abv with a carbonation level that is a little on the lower side. For all the sweet flavors and light hop it may have been better suited with a higher more exciting carbonation and a tad thinner body.
Overall – Tastes very much malt liquor like, but without the kick and at much the higher price (and not available in a 40 or tallboy size as any appropriate malt should be). Stick with the classic malts if you are considering this; this is not really a winner for the price.

1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
This is not good. I didn't take the time to look but I'm sure the coloring is fake. When I have a "European" (in quotes because the devil aka InBev owns it) lager or pilsner I expect good hop bitterness and flavor. This is bland crap. Horrible.

Draft... RBSG 2014... Clear yellow lager with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose features spicy and peppery hops with biscuit and steeping malt. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is nicely balanced with equal measures of peppery bitterness, and sweetbread. Crisp, lightly sweet finish.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2014 Lots of flavor. The label highlights “German hops”, but I’m tasting roasted malts. Too sweet for my taste, not for me.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from Rite-Aid: Appeared as a crystal clear golden liquid with thin foam head. Carbonation bubbles rise fast and violently. Nose is mild with the same smell of the original Becks recipe with corn/rice adjuncts but there is a slight pinch of hops that add a perfume fragrance. The drink is harsh with a noticeable sting of alcohol and a disappointing taste of sweet corn and rice adjuncts that taste worse than the original Beck’s. The bottle presentation had me believe this would be a dark lager but it’s obvious once poured that it is really just another pale lager style.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Yet another A-B brew in disguise, which I can live with... if it’s any good. It’s got a yellow body with a very short-lived fizzy head. It has an aroma (not strong) of damp fresh cut grass with some dirt. The taste begins with a grainy sweetness rapidly followed by a dull grassy bitterness. While better than many an A-B offering, I won’t be repeating it.

1.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Pours a medium golden with a pillowed head. Aromas grainy, lightly grassy, light caramel. Flavors of maize, light caramel, grain and slight grass. Overall the maize ruins it for the other mild flavors. Medium sweetness that emanates from the corn. The sapphire hops come through as grassy.

I thought I was buying German beer. Turns out I was wrong. This swill is made in St. Louis, MO. Shame on Beck’s for the deception. I will never buy Beck’s again.
