Taste is light and hoppy on a base of bready malt. A typical German pilsner.

However, I was forced into having it when visiting a pub where shockingly there was nothing on the 3 handpumps and they had also run out of all their premium continental beers leaving just 6 macros, of which this was the only one I hadnt rated. I was pleasantly surprised on tasting it - this is far better than I remembered; there is actually a decent amount of malt in there, and a bit of lime/citrus hoppy bite. The carbonation is not too excessive, and yet it has still got a crisp, refreshing finish. By macro lager standards this is very good, although by overall beer standards it is still nothing to write home about. I am guessing that the Reinheitsgebot has done some good, given that Germanys biggest macro is still of significantly higher quality than most world macros that are foisted on us! nickd717 (1415), Palo Alto, California, USA

Classic cinema, does not get any better than that. Where were we? Oh yeah, Becks. Third best beer in Germany? Riiiiiight. "Becks" is probably German for "run of the mill." Not terrible for a macro, but still watery and a little skunky. Und...und...und NEXT. dm9831 (1168), Monee, Illinois, USA
