2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
On tap at a random restaurant in Villa Borghese, Roma, august 18th 2013. Pale yellow body with a big white head. Weak malty aroma with grass and hay, taste of grassy hops and cereal, with a nice bitterness. Bittersweet light finish.

1.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Clear medium-light amber with a frothy bright white head that takes several minutes to drop down, mottled bands of lace. Other raters didnít note that there is an aroma of adjuncts in this brew. The taste also reveals more grains than malt. I distinctly remember having Beckís several years ago, noting that it had a sulfurous overtone and distinct floral hop bittering, similar to Pilsner Urquell. Even though this isnít a pilsner, it still has neither, which makes it a weak contender. Too bad.

I had this at a wedding. Pours clear gold with a white head. Taste slightly sweet, crisp. I thought this was pretty good. I would drink this again.

Nice beer, very smooth drink. Iíve had several lagers from draft and the people at the restaurant made sure it was in top condition!

As lagers go, this is a very good choice. Pours with a clear golden color and is topped with a medium foamy head. Aroma is malty where grains are dominant. The taste is therefore initially slightly sweet, followed by a pleasant bitterwsweet body finishing with a slight bitterness. Similar to other lagers, but there is more taste present here. Refreshing and tasty, itís Beckís.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I poured a 24oz can into a 1-liter boot stein. It was canned on July 14, 2013 and cost $2.19 ($0.09 per ounce).
Appearance: Dark gold hue, crystal clear body with plenty of carbonation visible. Pours to a small, white, soapy head which fizzles away and leaves almost no lacing.
Smell: A little less clean-smelling than most macro lagers. Nothing in the way of adjuncts, but nothing appealing to the aroma. Generic "beer smell" if ever there were one.
Taste: I didnít realize it until I was halfway through, but Beckís is now brewed in America by Anheuser-Busch (aka Budweiser). Iíd like to think the authentic German version, though it is a macro lager, would be a little bit better than "just barely tolerable." While Iíve had several fizzy yellow beers that are much worse than Beckís, I have to say Iím genuinely disappointed by how bad this beer is. The flavor is virtually non-existent (which is nice, actually), but itís the awful finish that ruins it. If it tasted like generic macro lager it would be an improvement. Honestly, thereís just nothing for my taste buds to latch on to. Though, the backside of each swig brings with it an astringent, foul taste of something akin to saltwater or maybe even bile. Iím not sure whatís accounting for this, but I definitely donít like it. I donít see how anyone could.
Drinkability: Though the beer was plenty bubbly in the glass, the mouthfeel was surprisingly tepid and smooth. I had no trouble drinking down Beckís in large gulps, but it was at not point refreshing. Thereís also a slightly bitter, starchy aftertaste that I could do without. Thankfully, itís fairly light at 4.8% ABV (according to ratebeer - the can doesnít indicate). But thereís no reason to buy Beckís when thereís better macros available.
