2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sometimes the world is strange. Just after I’ve first heard that this beer was available in the US, a colleague brought it to me straight from Ethiopia. It is pale yellow and rather hazy. The nose includes a strange but obvious bubblegum aroma. It is surprisingly malty with a velvetty soft mouthfeel, is bready and slightly grassy, and actually not bad at all. My bottle stated it being 4.3% though, so maybe there are two versions of this beer?

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Very malty nose, golden, pours a small firm white head, leaves some lace. Tastes is sweet malt, hops are seemingly absent. Light bodied, softly sweet. Ordinary, but a nice little beer from this country. It comes in a bottle like Duvel(recycled?) The bottle I had said it was 5.2% abv. A big Thank You to Laf-o for the headsup on this one!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I rather liked this beer. Mine had a touch of sourness/citrus and was flavorful. A real surprise to me. Rerate: Again, terrific! It’s a bit sweet. Not much carbo. Re-re-rate: This gets better and better!

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2004 I must have had an old bottle last time, grassy aroma, watery texture and a decent finish. Old rating: I should have known better than to have tried this beer. It tasted spoiled and I doubt that it would have been much better fresh.

330 ml bottle in Sudan. Pours a pale yellow with short head. Aroma has some heavy spices in it that are hard to place, but pleasant. Taste is unlike the aroma and has a slight cardboard taste. Palate ends with some sourness.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear golden body with a thin, almost non-existent, white head. No Skunk! Woohoo! Malty, slightly sweet, aroma with some toffee and honey. Thin to moderate body, surprisingly full. The flavor is quite malty with almost no hop character. I'm really wondering if this is what a well-kept, aged light lager tastes like. Not skunky or oxidized, but there is no hop character and an odd smoothness and thickness to the body. A truly interesting experience, especially considering what I was expecting. The world is so damn intriguing...
