3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 7, 2009
In short: A sweet, slightly spicy, slightly toasted and low on hops Belgian (kind-of-)Dubbel. Decent brew.
How: Tap at brewpub. Aged batch.
The look: Clear golden copper body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Shy nose of light spiciness and tree bark. Good crisp & sweet malts with a Corn Flakes™ dipped in caramel flavour. Slightly spicy with notes of white pepper, oregano and ginger. Slightly fruity with no specific fruit coming through. Hints of roasted nuts. Finish leaves a brown sugar after-taste. Could have used more hops, a recurring theme with many Bedondaine beers. When lining-up the flavour elements and comparing this brew to classic Belgian Abbey beers I’d say this one is 2/3 Dubbel and 1/3 Tripel. In a perfect world this beer would have a nice dry tree leaf/bark kick thanks to a generous amount of hops and all beers would develop abs instead of hiding them.

(Rating #1913)
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (7029) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 1, 2008
Festival Bières et Saveurs. A cuivee-style beer, 9 months aged. Cloudy orange with some white head and lace.Lace dots iun cup. SoOme barleywine/ old ale taste, and yeast, contributing all to an above average mouthfeel. Active carbonation. Good drinking Belgian though not great a very good achievement.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6928) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2008
My Bottom Line:
This sugary Belgian-style Strong Ale lays out a blurry fruit jam atop a pie crust-like toastiness for a homely dessert sipping experience.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the hazy coppery amber.
-The body is soft and round, but the malts are perhaps a little too sweet and undefined for my tastes.
-Alcohol is well hidden.
-A light hop bitterness balances out the last half, but the first half is rather sweet.
-Some caramel maltiness is tasted as well, but mostly comes out as brown sugar.
On tap at Festival Bières et Saveurs.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (6041) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 28, 2008
Objectively speaking:
A strongly yeasty, warming belgian strong ale. 9-months old draught glass at the brewpub.
I like:
Good honeyed notes are extracted from the aromatic cereals. Highly yeasty, but not particularly complex in that regard, mostly bread dough. Gently spicy, perhaps wheaty even? Timid esters.
I dislike:
Even for a 8% beer, this felt fairly alcoholic, though it was drank after a 1hr+ bike ride on an hot summer afternoon. Even at only 9 months, this is already growing some oxidation traits, the body thinning has certainly begun.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Quevillon (2210) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 13, 2008
