3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TaktikMTL (4789) - Montréal-Nord, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 18, 2013
(Rating #4501)
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Glouglouburp (5545) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 18, 2012
In short: A crunchy beer with moderate rye presence and a bit too much sugars. Just ok.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Mostly clear dark orange topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose has moderate rye presence, some spicy notes, toasted sweet cereals. Taste has again a moderate rye presence (this is not a rye bomb), too much crunchy residual sugars, grainy cereals (rye and others), typical spiciness associated with rye, cheese flavoured crackers, herbal spiciness. Full nourishing body with a pleasant medium carbonation. Clean and crisp beer as it is always the case at Bedondaine. I can’t give it a bad score however this beer was definitely too sweet for its own good. Low drinkability. Nothing interesting here, just another merely ‘ok’ beer that makes me spend time on ratebeer again, what a waste of time this ratebeer thing is, but my days on ratebeer are numbered, right now it is day #2838, tomorrow will be #2839, and so on and so on….
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 24, 2012
My Bottom Line :
Spicy rye and herbal hops evolve in a sweetish, crunchy mouthfeel.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam tops the russet-tinged amber.
-This is a bit too portly to be perfectly drinkable.
-The flavor profile is balanced throughout.
-As with many Bedondaine brews, they were not aiming for a specific style here. I like that.
On tap at Bières et Saveurs festival in Chambly.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (8239) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 8, 2012
Presented as Finfinos: A reddish copper ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice grainy malt with bready notes, rye iron notes, decent. In mouth, sweet grainy caramel with roasted character, residual sugar, OK. On tap at Bieres et Saveurs 2012, Sept 1 2012.
