on tap at the brewpub. pours a cloudy golden hue with a thick white head. aroma is yeasty and earthy, but i’m not getting much beechwood smoke at all. it comes out a little bit in the taste, but nothing overwheming at all. mouthfeel is light bodied and not much carbonation. not a bad beer, but i find it rather boring. especially when compared to other smoked beers.

Glass at brewpub.
Appearance : Hazy amber with a small head. Not much lacing.
Aroma : Smokey and quite fruity. Quite malty also. Not so smoky. A bit peachy. Some caramel and toffee. Some citrusy hops.
Taste : Smokey and malty with some hops. Quite fruity. Light sweet caramel. Sugary.
Overall : Nice smoke but not very powerful. Lots of other stuff going on. Not a very clean smoked beer. Enjoyable but a bit too peachy and fruity.

Tap at brewpub, few days before their 2010 anniversary. Miles away from any smoked beer I had, golden color: forget Schlenkerla Marzen here, it is nothing alike. Alchool quite present, liquorish texture, notes reminding a whisky. Hops underlying, discreet. I liked it, it is well done, I’d have another one, but I wasn’t overwhelmed.

In short: A clash of smokiness and honeyed malts and fruits. Decent beer even if a bit weird.
How: Tap at Chambly Beer Festival 2009
The look: Partly cloudy dark orange body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose has moderate smoke (not a very smoky beer) and notes of honeyed fruits. Taste has plenty of crisp honeyed malts with a sponge cake flavour. Fruity notes of mangos, bananas and such. The smokiness came out weird. Something about the fruity flavours, yeast or whatever just didn’t sit well with the smoke and the smokiness ends-up feeling like the cooking smoke from a sauté or something like that. Just weird. Not a bad beer but the smokiness felt like a guitar solo in a buddhist chant.

En fût sur place, surprenante bière blonde avec un nez des plus surprenant fumée à souhait, petite note médicinale. Bouche soyeuse, ronde, bon goût de fumé. très agréable.

A golden ale with a thin white head. A nice caramel malt aroma with light peated notes, nutty. In mouth, a well balanced ale with caramel and smoked malt. Medium bodied. Well done, Charles! On tap at brewpub, May 10 2009.

On tap @ the brewpub. Light amber pour with small off-white head. Somewhat smoky aroma, though can’t say there’s much of it. Not much of anything else going on either. Flavor is more of the same; kind of smoky, but I wanted more to come out. Decent palate with a lingering smoky finish.

12 ounce glass at the brewpub, in the company of tiggmtl, June 16 2007. Hazy amber-gold with a smallish white bubbly head, long-lasting with some decent lacing....mildly smoky, grainy aroma, lightly sweet and yeasty, somewhat spicy (thyme), growing a bit smokier with warmth.....sweet, faintly alcoholic, smoky-cheesy-funky texture throughout, a bit of baked apple, light burnt/bitter notes grow stronger towards the long finish....quite a pleasure.
