Drank on tap (20 oz) at the brewpub on October 16, 2011. Very dark brown, small head. Raw and fragrant cereal flavor, well-malted. Taste of fresh wheat and other kinds of cereal, aftertaste of herbs and red fruit. I do not know why it’s called Oktoberfest, this is not but it’s good!

(Rating #3350)

My Bottom Line:
This nutty and earthy Dunkel Weizen surprises with its malty countenance and its nearly absent yeast profile, until a rising leafy hop bitterness reminds you this is Bedondaine we are talking about. Who cares about style guidelines, right?

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam draws some sticky lacing on top of the dark brown gown.
-Malt flavors produce chocolatey and bready connotations.
-The very soft carbonation and levelled dextrins make for a comfortable mouthfeel.
-I love it when a brewer does his own interpretation of a style, and makes as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable, than a typical version. That is true vision.

On tap at the brewpub.

A dark amber to brown dunkel with a thin off white head. A light nutty aroma with mineral notes, light chocolate. In mouth, a sweet nutella malt with light herbal notes, a bit lighter than expected. On tap at brewpub, Dec. 5 2009.

Hazy dark brown hue, with a small beige head, yeasty, mild toasted, roasted malt, faint nutty nose, with some chocolatey, coffee, burnt caramel, cookie dough accents, and a hint of burnt dark dried fruit note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, wheaty, toasty, biscuity, chocolate, light roasty malt character, with some nice chocolatey brownie, cake, caramel, toffeeish, light mocha flavors, with a faint coffee bean roastiness and burnt sultana raisin, dried fig accent, leading towards a mild chocolatey, mochaish, lingering roasty, hop bitterness finish.

In short: A faithful but very soft example of the style
How: Tap at brewpub. Fresh first batch ever (2008)
The look: Cloudy brown body topped by an off-white ring of foam
In long: Nose of toasted whole-wheat bread. Body is soft, carbonation is soft, taste is soft, soft watery and watery toffee flavours, light soft overripe bananas presence, soft woody notes taking the form of tree bark in the finish. Drinkable for sure, not offensive at all, but just very soft and overall a bit bland. As soft as a baby bottom. A baby bottom that has been tenderised after being marinated and pounded for half and hour. Humm, sounds delicious. More so than the beer.
