Huge, chocolately roast aroma, slightly minty, belgian sweets. Burnt dark black pour, with a flavor that could use similar descriptors. Dark chocolate all the way, so strong, so defining, absolutely wonderful. It is beautiful! This to me sits among those old-school, lower grav imperial stouts that offer so much more in the way of complexity and personality. I love those too, but this is a very nice break.

A black pour covered by a magnificient milk chocolate coloured head of thick consistency and great endurance. An excellent example with abundant sweet malts balanced by anise-like characteristics and smokey, peaty + bittering roastiness that reminds of coffee. Delicious mouthfeel, full-bodied, round and not too warming, in fact surprisingly drinkable. Complementary grapey, blackberry notions are noticed both in aroma and flavour procuring the mildest acidity. Pure malt goodness in mouth, chewy and biscuity, fat malt profile. Excellent.

A deep dark stout, like a dark dream, but this one is not a nightmare. Thick luscious moka head. A sweet coffee aroma, with chocolate, licorice and alcohol notes, complex. In mouth, a good sweet chocolate malt, coffee moka, with some light smokey peated notes, and alcohol warmth in finale. Rich bodied. On tap at the brewpub, August 30, 2007.

Draught. Pitch black with a medium-sized short lasting mocha head. Nice aroma of milky chocolate, raisin sugars, and caramel. Leafy tobacco flavour and bitter roast. Creamy chocolate finish. It’s actually pretty light for an IS and there is no notable alcohol.
Sampled at the brewpub on June 3, 2007

On tap at Bedondaine. Pours a deep black with a medium sized tan head. Roast, chocolate and char on the nose. Lightly sweet with nice roast notes. Toast, char and a touch of warm grain. Nice and easy drinking with a long roast finish.

Tap at brewpub, aged for a year. Strangely similar to their new Ricochet 4% stout, almost as thin and watery, which makes it a very easy to drink IS. It is just slighlty more malted and rich and not much more hoppy. Brownies and espresso, with some fruit subtilities but the depth in the taste is not as impressive as others in this style. Probably not a brew on the same level as many of their great offerings.
