voota (754), Melbourne, Australia May 12, 2008 cloudy mahogany colour with a tiny off-white head. Strong woody, toffee aroma, slight acidity makes me think I’m about to enjoy a Petrus Bruin or something. Mouthful has an intersting sweet and sour thing going on, its a little flat and a bit flabby from what I’m assuming is a truckload of crystal malt. Lots of grainy malt flavours, vanilla, apples, toffee, oak and some sourness. Its obviously on its way out, but still really interesting to drink. I’ll try and re-rate when I find a fresh sample, which might be a struggle considering the amount of infected bottles I’ve had from this brewery.
Samma (46), Australia Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. Deep orangey brown in colour with little head. Toffee flavours come through well. Holds falvour well throughout. Far from a typical brew choice for a young Aussie micro operation. Muggus69 (177), Sydney, Australia Mar 5, 2008 330ml bottle served chilled. Deep amber body with offwhite foam. Rich nutty toffee malt on the nose with an earthy hop presence. Low carbonation, medium body, sticky malt texture, possibly some detectable alcohol at higher temps which strikes me as a bit odd. Sweet toffee malt dominates the palate, well balanced with earthy, hop character bring with it a good dose of bitterness. Quite enjoyable, a style rarely found down under. m_peve (28), Bolwarra, Australia Jun 23, 2007 The aroma is slight with a hint of caramel. There is very little carbonation in the deep reddish-brown ale.The body is medium to full bodied with caramel and toffee flavours. A good, easy drinking session beer. Dredd (317), Ormond, Australia Jan 13, 2007 Quite a good take on the Celtic Ale, aroma is minimal which isn’t surprising for this style. Appearence is great, nice reddish brown colour with good lacing and head retention. Flavours are very yeast driven with some bread and stonefruit, finish is mainly some burnt malts and minimal bitterness.
