2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
September 14, 2012 - at The Beer Academy - draught sample. Very dark - ruby/black, clear with pretty much no creamy/frothy head. Quite roasty - dry, nutshell, oily malt, fairly bitter (generic/herbal) - frankly it’s a bit harsh, like a light black IPA (7-). Taste - nowhere near as roasty or bitter as the aroma; weirdly sweet, something reminding me of burnt grape juice (6-). Slick, watery, flat, burnt with a building harshness in the finish - I really didn’t like it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at brewpub Batch 1
Aroma proper dry roast notes. Clean feel with hints of charcoal ,dry ash , dark chocolate. Solid true to style nose. 8-
Appearance dark brown with beige medium cap. Some lace shown. 4-
Flavor and Palate : yes, this is tri Schwartz. Medium light body yet not empty on palate. Dry roast with slight metallic touches. Clean, refreshing excellent thirst quencher. Very approachable version of this style. Nothing extreme square mid of style description. If to look for negatives here maybe was tad too soft. Finishing with hint of smoke.

The beer pours a beautiful black colour with a decent sized brown head. Aroma is very stout like with plenty of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is roasted malt, somewhat mild coffee notes, and some yeastiness. A slight metallic aftertaste, but overall, quite enjoyable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery. Refreshing, toasted malts and noticeable hop bitter. Slight carbonation with a nice lingering bitter chocolate feel.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Brown-black with off-brown/tan head. Tight aromas that reflect fuller flavors - tastes a bit acrid and roasty, manure and pumpernickel, simply don’t like this one for the off-putting barn aroma.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Pours oily black with some head. This is more malty, malted chocolate beer than a dry or bitter shwartzbier. A sweeter version of the style. An above average mouthfeel. There is roast, but it is hitched to the chocolate and chocolate malt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep black pour with a tight tan head. The nose is great. Soft cocoa aroma with some herbal backnotes. A moderate sweetness through the middle but it's balanced nicely by a little bit of light bitterness. Great balance. Another tasty lager from these guys. Roastier than is typical for a schwarzbier but it works.
