2012-09-14. Hazy dark orange amber body, nice beige head and lace. 3+ Flavour is odd at first, quite sweet, with a good amount of sweet malt Character, but a nice sweet orange hops comes through eventually. Mild bitterness lingers in the finish. Modest hops in the aroma, light leafy green touches, toasty caramel malt. Medium bodied palate. Too much malt prominence, this is a hoppy pale ale. Almost seems like it needs to ferment out further to drop some of the sweetness? On tap at Beer Academy, Toronto

Hazy copper with a white head and lace. Hop aroma. Citrus hop flavour. Caramel feel smooths out the bitterness. Vert refreshing.

[4772-20120914] Tap. Mild hoppy red toasted grains aroma. Slightly hazy, red body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter toasted lemon peel flavour has a long yeasty grains finish. Medium body is fairly bitter. Tasty and bitter, nice balance. (8/3/8/3/16) 3.8

Beer pours a solid reddish-gold colour with a thin tan ring for a head which lasts. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with medium carbonation. The flavour is caramel and grapefruit, with some metallic notes in the mix. Overall, very drinkable.

Draught at the brewpub
Muddy light amber color, with creamy head. The aroma is nice, a bit fruity and buttery. Smooth mouthfeel, with malt flavor, sweetish, a bit fruity, correctly bitter, very light butter; a bit drier in the end.
Maybe flawed, but decent and pleasant.

625 ml bottle from the brewpub (Recipe 4, Batch 1). Pours a very murky orange/brown with modest-sized off-white head. Aroma is quite sweet with lightly toasty caramel, grapefruit and other fruit. Flavour is also very sweet, almost candyish, with fairly strong grapefruity hops, some other tropical fruit and a gently toasted but quite present caramel malt. Average plus body. Decent but a little too sweet.

Wow, this ones a doozy. Smells a little like hops drowned in bleach then dried out in the sun. Pours alright, reddish brown with pretty good lacing but palate is pretty nasty and tastes like stink. Reminds me of mill streets 80! - and that’s not a good thing.

Bottle from Beer Academy. Pours cloudy dark amber with a thin head. Aroma is malty with some fruit hints. Taste: creamy, nutty, fruity American hops, bitter finish. Thick and smooth. A good IPA, but not a great one.

June 20, 2012 - at The Beer Academy launch event. Draught sample. Slightly hazy amber-gold with small creamy lasting white head. Aroma is a little buttery/papery, but behind that slight unpleasantness is sweet generic light malt and floral bitterness, noticeable alcohol. Taste follows, a little more hop bite to it, a little mineral character (perhaps the way they treat their water?) - (7-). Light body, a little astringency, carbonation is on the mild side, and the finish is a little quick (3-). I just didn’t care for this much - not bad, but I think I need to try it again one day.
