This malty dark ale has soft fruity aromas which envelops the taste buds. This geek is very smooth and moreish.

Cask (handpump) @ Craft Beer Co., 82 Leather Lane, London, Greater London, England EC1N 7TR.

Clear medium to dark amber colour with a average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, nutty, earthy, spicy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20130118]

Cask at CBI on 20th February 2013. Dark copper with thin tan film and lacing bands. Pungent deep earthy aroma with strong sherry alcohols. Rich festive berries, alcohol andnuttiness in-mouth with Christmas puydding, figs and citrus. Some bitterness in finish with fruitiness and festive flavours continuing. Light body and mouthfeel.

Cask at Craft Islington, 21/02/13. Hazed mahogony brown with a medium tan head that retains well. Nose is dark malt, dark fruits, raisens, light spice, cardboard. Taste comprises dark malts, dark fruits, papery, biscuit. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry in the finish. Pretty average fayre - seems to hold as many ESB like qualities as it does porter - bit of a mish mash, not one to return to.

Cask at the Cask Pub and kitchen. Dark caramel red in colour. Thick magnolia head. Soft roast aroma. Flavour is mostly fusel alcohols / nail polish remover green apple. Very hard to stomach. Pretty bad.

Tasty but a bit thin for my liking. I like them with a bit more oomph. Good maltiness though. I told my old lady that this geek was a bit like me, smooth and moreish. She read the label and said ’more like soft and fruity’. Ripper.

Cask at the Birmingham beer festival 2012. Dark brown clear pour with a broken white frothy head. Very malty aroma with hints of fruit. Big rich but smooth malty flavour with some sour liqourice on the palate. A very different ale that deserves a top rating.

Dark porter, sweet sickly taste - will not be drinking again. Purchased in the post office vaults pub (a little gem in central birmingham) ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

With 2 ratings, 1 more than anyone else, I am officially the Beer Geek Ratebeer resident expert. Porter? I didn’t know that when I had it. Expert lol. Dark, thinning head, bit thin.

Cask at Walsall Beer Festival. Clear amber pour with very little head (cask with no handpump) Nice enough porter. Would like to try it with some carbonation.
