Sampled at DØE Beerfestival 2009, Valby. Pours a black beer with no head. The aroma is licorice, chocolate and coffee. The flavor follows the nose. The palate leaves a bold body, and overall a good bold beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Cloudy dark brown, minimal head. Meaty soy sauce aroma. Takes full bodied to the extreme. Very sweet withlots of caramel. Thick with lots of power and even more molasses. Syrupy finish. Too thick and raw. Needs a century or so to mature.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled@The Bishop’s Arms, Vasagatan, Stockholm. Quite much pitch black colour, no head. Aroma is wood, liquorice, alcohol, burnt sugar and some spices. Also dark chocolate and some espresso coffee. Flavour is wood, sweet liquorices, ashes, burnt wet wood and some slight notes of dark fruits. Big liquorice, herbs and ashes in the finish. Very wellbalanced and hides the alcohol really well.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
0.25 l bottle, thanks Timo A! Pitch black color, almost no head. Rich sweet and roasty aroma with licorice, grass, soya sauce, leather, warming alcohol and Jägermeister liquer. Sweet roasty aroma with burnt sugar, burnt grass, raisins, licorice, fennel and madeira wine. Some warming and sharp alcohol. Thick body with some roasty astringency. Long drying spicy finish. Excellent herbal bitters aroma. The flavor is a bit hard to drink, perhaps there could be less fennel or this should be aged. This is extreme beer but not so extreme compared to fernet branca or gammel danks bitters. I’d like to cellar few bottles of this.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle at 3 Små Rum, Göteborg, on August 30, 2009
Black color, no head. Alcohol, roasted and chocolate scent. Salty, licorice, sweet taste. Smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
Guess it wouldn’t hurt to let this one rest a couple of years to get the sharp alcohol edge to wear off a bit.
