4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Ljunkan (529) - NORWAY - JUL 26, 2009
Bottle, big thanks to Alexander for this one. Pours a pitch black color with a small, almost non-existing head, which soon becomes a small ring of foam around the glass edge. Aroma is really powerful and nice; riesen (dark chocolate toffee), nuts, coffee, spices and liquorice. What a wonderful aroma ... Flavour is as powerful as the aroma with much riesen, dark chocolate, nuts, spices, coffee and liquorice. Fullbodied, thick on the palate, very smooth, almost oily/creamy mouthfeel, no carbonation. Warming, but the alcohol is extremely well hidden for 16%. A fantastic beer, all categories, and it feels balanced for a super strong imperial stout/porter. I love it!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bierkoning (8963) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - JUL 26, 2009
Bottle @ RBESG Grand tasting 2009. Deep dark brown color, no head. Malt, just a bit of vennel, caramel and raspberry in the flavor. No carbonation whatsoever. Alcoholic, roasty flavor, vinous and caramelly. Still needs a lot of time to fully develop.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jonte (1334) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - JUL 25, 2009
Bottle. Tre Små Rum. Gothenburg. Black colour with no head at all. Aroma: Roastiness, brown sugar, licorice, strong wine, alcohol and some chocolate. Flavor: Lots and lots of salty licorice, less sweet then the aroma indicates, a bit medicinal, some alcohol, some bitter chocolate, Full bodied, thick mouthfeel. No carbonation. Not very complex taste. Interesting, but one bottle for two persons was a bit too much.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hirigalzkar (1824) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 25, 2009
Bottle. This was a real bomber... lots of salt licorice and chocolate liqour that hides the alcohol well. Another great beer from Beer Here!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ungstrup (26269) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - JUL 23, 2009
Bottled. A pitch black beer with no head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, brown sugar, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet though with an acidic edge from the hard roasted malt with notes of soy sauce, wood, and alcohol, as well as light notes of oxidation, leading to a dry woody finish. A bit too much for my liking.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Borresteijn (3653) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - JUL 23, 2009
RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Black colour, no head. Aroma of sweet molasses, caramel, soy sauce. Flavour is soy, roasted malts, alcohol, a bit of coffee. Light bitter earthy finish. Fat mouthfeel. Ah, now I see the ABV, that explains a lot..A bit too much of everything in this one.
