Bottle. Hazy deep brown liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of red berries, raw sugar, toffee, raisins, caramel, biscuit, light port wine, flowery hops and earth. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of chocolate, red berries, caramel and grapefruit. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite viscous. Nice.

50 cl. bottle poured in to a snifter. Murky, dark amber colour with a creamy, light tanned head. Sweet aroma with rich caramel malts, light toast, grapefruits, citrus and overripe fruits. Light hints of alcohol. Taste is bitter with a hearty amount of caramel malts lurking behind. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with pines and citrus fruits. A light sting of alcohol. Nice, big Barley Wine in a generic US-style. As usual extra credits for the imaginative Beer Here labels.

Underwhelming and boozy. The aroma smells like cara malt and dirty old wood with a hint of piney hops. Light burgundy highlights in a dark brown body capped with a bit of hazy beige foam. The first sip is sweet and fruity with a pear like flavour that subsides quickly with a lot of grainy malt characteristic. The finish s underwhelming and boozy.

Cirrhosis (1175) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 3, 2014
Darkish reddish brown with a quarter inch crown floating on top. Aroma is underwhelming, it’s woody, not grape but kind of, alcohol is noticeable. Taste is the same but sweeter and nutty. Bitter in the finish with a lingering sweetness. Underwhelming disappointing drinkable barlywine.

From a 650ml bottle on 16/122/2013. Pours a cloudy amber with a smallish head. Has a pleasant aroma of bread, biscuit, toffee and raisins. Flavour wise, this is really complex, with bready, toasty and nutty malt, more toffee and caramel, and lots of citrus (lemon, mandarin) and dark fruit (prunes, cherries) featuring. It finishes with a huge, quite sharp, long bitterness. The palate is quite thick and chewy and the carbonation is a touch above medium. That it’s 11% doesn’t surprise. This is one you really need to let warm, as it seems a little harsh really cold. But give it time, and you’ll find lots to enjoy here. A very enjoyable barley wine for those who after something full on.

Bottle @ home …. It pours murky brown with yeast lefties and with a small light tan head… Light toasted malt, dark fruits, brown sugar, nuts, light hoppy, some alcohol notes…..
