COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 17th century Britain beer was the drink of the common man. Wine was for the wealthy, tea was for the weak and water was usually quite poisonous. Men, women and children drank beer morning, noon and night. The most popular type of beer was porter because of its modest price and its nutritional value. One of the most popular porter brewers, and often incorrectly credited with the invention of the beer, was Ralph Harwood. This beer is inspired by the brown porter made at the time. TASTING NOTES Enters the glass with a deep mahogany with a small tan head. The nose quickly fills toffee and sweet chocolate. Smooth in flavour and with a big mouth feel without significant bitterness from the hops. Ends full, creamy and lush. FOOD PAIRING Should be paired with food as it could have been served at Harwoods time. A steak- and kidney pie should work well or for the slightly more modern touch serve it with a porter house steak smothered in a wild mushroom and oyster gravy.

Dark color, almost black with mahogany shades; medium sized creamy beige head. Nice aroma of roasted malts and bread. Full bodied; moderate roasted malt flavor, dark chocolate, light residual sweetness, some bread; correct bitterness. Very well balanced. Nice.

Pours near black with small tan head. Not a huge aroma but some dark chocolate, yeast and alcohol. The taste has all the above but tastes quite green and a little metallic. Light bodied and peppery. Solid but not spectacular.

Tap. Long-lasting ochre head. Murky dark brown. Thick lace. Strong herbs and dark syrup on aroma. Medium body. Strong, sweet and some bitterness, nice blend of tastes of liqourice, roasted malts, brown sugar. Would by even better with more bitterness, to my taste.

(Bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 19 2014) Pours nearly black, with a big bubbly medium tan head and lots of lace. Aroma has a core with lots of dark charred malts, a bit of coffee and a touch of dark chocolate, and a faint smoky/ashy character. Flavour has coffee, dry dark malts, unsweetened chocolate, and lots of burnt flavours. More char into the finish, slight grain. Pretty dry really. Lingering burnt notes in the aftertaste. Fairly light body for the style, with soft carbonation. This was a very heavily roasted/burnt porter for the style I thought, and overwhelmed the richness that may have been present in the malts. Not bad, not excellent.
