COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A decadent stout, inspired by the special British ales exported to the Russian Court, during the 18th century. It is black and viscous like crude oil from the oil fields in the Caspian Sea. The flavor is dominated by dark notes of burnt sugar, spicy hops and smokiness from peaked malt. Unpasteurized * Unfiltered * Bottle-conditioned.
Ingredients: water, barley malt, sugar, hops, yeast.

1000th rating. Wish I would have used it on a better beer. 20 buck bottle at el bait shop in Des Moines. Figured this would be a good way to go. Black pour tan head. Light chocolate taste. The ABV is hidden well. Pretty good

500 ml bottle.
Pours a pitch black colour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, tar, smoked wood and hay. Flavour of roasted malts, smoked wood, strong salty licorice, pepper, peat, tar and rather strong grassy bitterness. Full bodied, oily and a bit sticky mouthfeel and a warming, pungent woody, roasty finish. Great.

Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a dark ruby brown black color with a longlasting tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and licorice aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and licorice flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate licorice and caramel finish.

500mL bottle. Poured medium-ish brown with a huge, dense, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up sweet smoky malts, licorice, and molasses with pine resin and herbal hop accents.. moderate roast at most.. kept coming back to the smoked malts, but I enjoyed them. The flavor found semi-sweet chocolate and licorice root at the core, with meaty molasses, a hefty dose of campfirey malts, and herbal bitterness around.. picked up some black pepper and rye for the long, bitter, belly-warming finish.. just a little too tangy back there, but I loved the smoke character. Medium-bodied with filling carbonation on the palate.. balance was alright.. good beer, but not great.

An imperial stout that doesn’t pour a black body? Well, dark brown is also a nice colour, and the head is excellent: it’s light brown, large, creamy, dense and reduces to a never vanishing layer that leaves lots of lacing on the glass. The aroma is strong and aggressive. It’s burnt with strong coffee, ash and some smoke. Also some nice hoppy notes. The taste is moderate sweet with an initial moderate bitterness, while the finish is extraordinarily bitter and very long-lasting. The flavour profile is as aggressive and violent as the aroma, I get stinging (but clean) notes of alcohol that fit the ashy and burnt flavours well. The dark roasted coffee is also in the front, also gentle smoke and liquorice. The darkness is partially taken care of by some cosy sweet fruity notes, but this is still quite a demanding and in yo face brew. It might benefit from a few more years in the cellar? The mouthfeel is good, with a full body, oily texture and soft carbonation. Violent but delicious!

Bottle. Pours a near black color with s smallish off-white head. Nose is super roasty and inviting. Taste is just a tad sour to go with the roasting, but nice and easy.
