3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours jet black with a foamy tan head that quickly shrinks to a surface ring. Sweet, fruity aroma has caramel, vanilla, sultanas, cherry, dates, golden syrup and chocolate notes. Flavour is still quite sweet, reminiscent of cane sugar, but less complex than the aroma, with less fruit and more straightforward malt characteristics. Mouthfeel is thick and oily, almost syrupy, with soft carbonation and a moderate sweet, slightly boozy finish. Overall this fell slightly short of expectations and was lacking in complexity, but is still a pleasant brew and a particularly good nightcap.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Small, receding, slighly irregular beige head over deep-brown to black beer. Very perfumey nose with marzipan, bubblegum, rosewater, suggesting perfumey sweet. Fruity esters and dark malts. Very sharp-bitter liquorice and drop - even salt one. Some fruity background notes, fruitdrops, but all drowned in the bitter liquorice flavour. Bitter chocolate retronasal. Well bodied, slick to viscous, alcoholwarming. Just a taste I abhorr, sorry.

Thanks Hopscotch for the share, lovely label.
Nose is faint traces of what should make up a good (to me) quad, raisins and brown sugar and figs, but also alcohol presence. But you have to dig for the good, and the alcohol is a bit much. The taste is a bit muddled on the palate, some ambiguous sweet flavors, and a kind of oddly dry/bitter finish. Meh.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
As always im abit skeptic tasting a non belgian abbey ale. And with good reason i think. This one is hazy dark brown with a nice dense brown head. Aroma has some ripe fruity phenols, but its pretty far from the belgian ones in that they arent as intense, complex and smooth. The fruit is backed up by a rather big amount of hard roasted malt, and oc alchohol. Flavor is sugery sweet and actually more roasted bitter than sweet, with notes of dark chocolate and liquirice. I really like the beer, but i find it very different from the belgian abt which i enjoy even more.

Bottle shared with friends at Klooster. Always happy with Beer Here beers and this quad did not disappoint. Great flavours and a label that’s guarenteed to get some laughs.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled 50cl. Buttery aroma which is reminiscent of dried fruit, plums, banana and candy sugar. Full bodied. Buttery taste too. I was quite dissapointed by this Abt.

Dark, dark brown. Has an off-white head, mostly lasting. Sweet aroma, notes of dark, dried fruits and malt. Flavor is heavy sweet, more dark bread, fruit, grain, faint roasted. Syrupy texture. Soft carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0.5L bottle brought home from ØlKonsortiet, Aalborg. A finger of latte head, quickly shrinking to a ring of tiny bubbles. Body is the darkest brown with a reddish hue. Initial aroma of alcohol-soaked roasted nuts. Feels quite unrefined and solventy on the nose, actually. Hints of brown sugar and peppery dark malts. Taste is sweet malty, bordering on harsh. Moderately roasted with a sourish tone. Notes of wood and licorice. Alcohol is noticable. Mid-bodied. Sharp, light astringent mouthfeel. Sourish and peppery malt finish. Goes well down, but a bit edgy and unrefined. Will probably improve with cellaring.
