COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: In the Trappist monasteries an extra strong and good ale was brewed during the lent to keep the hunger at bar. The sweet drops on an empty stomach, combined with the much idle time occasionally led to less steadfast members of the order giving in to more earthly excesses. They went under the name "Malus Pater" - the bad father. With this ale inspired by the trappists you can now even do the same. And remember: God sees everything, but he doesn’t tell!

Bottle. It’s a clear, dark reddish brown beer with a very small head. Dried fruits like prunes and raisins on the nose, some alcohol and roasted malts as well. The alcohol barely detectable. The aroma has some bitterness and coffee hints to support the dried fruits and warming alcohol, it’s smooth, full-bodied and warming, finishing with a little too less flavor but sufficient warmth. A really nice one, but it lacks a bit on complexity. 110513

Rating #2300. 500ml brown bottle. Deep brown, rapidly receding tan head. Nose has fruit notes of raisin, cherry also some caramel, cola and chocolate malt. Taste has dark fruit and dark chocolate. Some roast/dark malt and hop bitterness at the end. Light hops in the aftertaste, bit of smooth alcohol and dark fruits. Big body. A well put together quad that drinks easily for it’s strength.

BeerViking (2290) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 2, 2014
Bottle from Denmark, pours a deep, nearly flat brown with light sour plum notes plus pear drops and toffee on the nose. Palate has a slight tartness, plus treacle, forest berries, a dry bitterness, a touch of earthy wood, and a little spice and coffee. The mouthfeel is interestingly syrupy-sweet yet dry-bitter. Really doesn’t drink its strength, until you start to notice the warmth spreading to your head!
