COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

(50 cl bottle from Kervan) Pours a clear, dark brown with rich toffee head. Decent lace and retention. Aroma is like the smoke that comes from a woodfired stove with some additional toasted grainy and slightly acidic notes. Creamy palate, full body, medium carbonation and a dark and slightly astringent finish. Taste is dark toasted grain - not that bitter - with some acidic notes. A nicely toned down use of smoke with a sufficiently dark body for the smoke to complement it without being akin to Northsea oil. Girlfriend says: "It’s extremely smokey - it’s a bit too much for me."

Aroma is really nice with lots of milk chocolate and some coffee. Flavour starts hoppy and continues with chocolate and coffee. Some smoke and in the finish. Good, although a bit too hoppy for my taste.

50 cl bottle. BBE 01.03.2014.
Pours dark ruby red colour with large foamy head. Aroma of smoke, roasted malts, chocolate, ripe fruits and mild caramel notes. Flavour of chocolate, ash, mild burnt coffee notes, toasted malts, ripe fruits and spices. Very rich palate for such low abv.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a dark brown colour with a beigeish head. Rich aroma of dark chocolate and smoked wood. Flavour of roasted malts, smoke, dark chocolate, coffee, birch leaves and wood. Full bodied, quite thick mouthfeel and a roasty finish with loads of chocolate, smoke and coffee. A rich porter, I like.

500ml bottle picked up at Barley Wine in Copenhagen. A good looking brew with its fawn-coloured head covering a clear, rosewood coloured body. Subdued smell of smoked malts. Smoked flavour with hints of chocolate, star anise and citrus hops to the finish. Smooth in the mouth. Ok, a tad anonymous, though (hotel room, 01.11.2011).

0.5L botttle from Kihoskh, København. Pours an unclear dark brown body with a reddish hue. Two fingers of creamy beige foam on top. Roasted dark malts on the nose. Subtle smoke, and a scent of burnt caramel. Much of the same flavorwise. Well roasted dark malts in the lead, added by discreet smoke/ash tones, and with hints of burnt caramel and bitter coffee. Smooth on the palate. Medium full. Roasted and malty-bitter endnotes. Solid stuff, nicly balanced.

Bottle. Dark brown with a large beige head. Aroma: roasted, fruity, smoked sausage, chocolate. Taste: chocolate, salami, fruity, salty licorice, coffee, roasted. Medium-bodied, smooth. Not that smoky, but a nice porter.
