3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Perfumed soap aroma, but plenty of light grains too. Fuller in the palate than your typical filtered pils - love unfiltered lagers. But crisp too. Lots of light milky grains, and a metric fuckton of crisp noble hops, nice citrussy sharpness, but a good dry leafy bitterness too. Great balance. A great lager. Love the noble hops, and the milky grains. This is lager as it should be. And at 4.6% this is session heaven.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Cloudy golden beer with a frothy white head. The aroma is yeasty, malty and hopped. The flavour is very bitter and dry with hops in abundance, and a long dry finish. Overall a nice well hopped beer.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours hazy pale gold with a thin white head. Aromas of lemon and light malt. Taste is more lemon bitter, bit of yeast. Oily texture. Finishes more lemon! OK, expected something a bit more lager-y.

33 cl. bottle. Hazy amber-golden with a big, fluffy white head. Fruity aroma with pale malts, grasses, bread, hints of citrus and a earthy-spiced note. Taste is bitter. Light to medium body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with grasses, bread, and pale malts. Nice Kellerbier with a little more hops bite than usual..

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
First foray into Zwickels. First impression is that it’s aroma is reminiscent of a mash-up between a pale ale and a pilsner. Owed largely to its lager malt, lemon hops, straw notes. Some bready yeast as well makes for an interesting if slightly sickly nose.
Flavor is all of the above minus the fruity-hops. There’s some spicy earthy hop notes that are present into the lightly bitter-finish. Like the palate the flavor is a little introverted.
If you seek refreshment in a beer this is a decent alternative to the faceless, macro-lagers.
