COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

YULEWINE IS BIG AND UNCOMPROMISING ENGLISH STYLE BARLEY WINE MADE FROM 100% CERTIFIED ORGANIC INGREDIENTS. WHEN POURED IT WILL EMBRACE YOU WITH ITS RUM€LIKE NOTES FROM DARK SUGAR ADDED TO THE KETTLE. MODEST HOPING TAKES THE BACKSEAT TO MOUTH FILLING MALT CHARACH TER CHASED BY WARMING ALCOHOL. ENJOY IT AT CELLAR TEMPERATURE AFTER A GOOD MEAL NOW OR KEEP IS FOR A FEW YEARS AS IT WILL IMPROVE FOR YEARS TO COME.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2012 Bottle at Dans. Poured a hazy caramel with an off-white head. Smell is caramel, brown sugar, alcohol, and light grapefruit. Taste is malty, some caramel, alcohol, and a citrusy bitter finish. Mouthfeel is medium with soft carbonation and good lacing. Overall, this is a decent barleywine, but more on the American spectrum for me. Also, the alcohol is very present. Not bad.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of notalush. Thanks a bunch! Reddish maroon appearance with a small, off white head. Kind of a woody, dark fruity, a bit tangy, caramel aroma. Tangy, dark berry, caramel, a bit herbal, somewhat toasty flavor with a fair amount of booze and bitterness.

Hazy amber - soapy lace - a lot of alcohol in the nose, overpowering more subtle notes of sherry, light esters, mild oxidation - flavor is surprisingly light - moderate sweetness with a bitterness to cut it that develops through the middle that balances fairly well - the bitterness is herbal, almost juniper/gin-like, especially in the finish - some notes of toffee and sherry through the middle - pretty decent, just way too much alcohol in the nose.

Not as big and crazy as I might have expected. Classic aromas of cooked sugary malts, minerally chocolate and sweet woods. Plenty more sweet fruits to taste, with a mildly bitter finish, but this really is incredibly elegant for a 11% beer. Some hop firness to finish.

Pours three finger khaki head that fades very slowly, leaving a good lace. Hazy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Brown sugar nose and flavor is brown sugar with a piney hop background. High ABV is hidden. $5.99 for a 500ml bottle from Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

Bottle to snifter. Amber mahogany pour with a thin white head. Slightly hoppy iced tea aroma. Taste is Carmelized sugar with hop balance. It’s good but I was expecting more mouthfeel and body. Good.

500ml Bottle: Aroma of malt, candi-sugar,caramel, yeast, raisins, and slight diacetyl. Poured very deep amber/brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, rocky, off-white/tan/beige head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny-sized particles throughout. Flavor is medium sweet, and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malt, caramel, raisins, hop, diacetyl, figs, and some dust. Medium to full body. Viscous, creamy, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, caramel, diacetyl, hop, finish is light to medium bitter and medium sweet. 11%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Pours tawny brown with a small beige head. Aroma is very bready with some toffee, cream, very toasty malt and some nuttiness. Medium body thats a bit rich and there is a bit of soft carbonation. The flavor starts much like the aroma and is very malty. The finish adds a touch of hops. Decent barleywine.

Pours mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes leaving spider lacing to hug rim. Dark caramel and breadfruit aromas. Thick with sweet dark caramel upfront turning to mild bitter earthy hops in the lasting finish.
