Cask @ Front Door: Pours a black thick color with a tan head and nice lacing. Foamy and retentive for cask. The nose is has some subtle roast with maple, coffee, bright astringency and a very fragrant fresh crisp citrusy hop note. The flavor is mellow, a bit astringent with sweet grape and honey flavor amidst the vanilla and coffee notes. Pleasant tail. The finish is bitter and astringent. Another drink relieves this unpleasantly. A roller coaster stout and IPA fest. Ample roasted barley and hops cover the senses. A little brash and lacking balance in the end but it’s bittersweet (pun intended) like a burnt marshmallow.

(Bottle) Pours brown black in the glass with creamy, pale brown head. The aroma hold boatloads of dark chocolate, caramelized milk chocolate, espresso, earthy tobacco and green chilly. In addition a lot of resinous, woodsy, herbal, grassy, light fruity and grapefruity hops. Fat, aggressive and yummy nose. The flavour is light sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light acidic brutal yet smooth roast and aggressive but complex hops. The mouthfeel is smooth malty still astringent hoppy with a soft carbonation. Hard roast and lingering, mega bitter hop finish. Medium to full bodied.

Bomber courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours very dark brown, almost. Lack, with a rather big frothy goldenish mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of trace on the glass. Smell is is slightly sweet and malty with roasted malts, milk chocolate, dark roast coffee, dark bread, prunes, wood, freshly cut grass, resinous wood, liquorice root, black pepper, dark bread and hints of lemon zest and green peppers. Taste is rich, slightly sweet and bitter with heavily roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, pumpernickel, grapefruit rinds, salty liquorice, green chili, resinous wood, freshly cut grass and burnt caramel. Mouthfeel is found, soft, smooth, very tiny roasted tart and medium to full bodied. Finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, pumpernickel, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, green chili, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds and hints of salty liquorice. A nice surprise!

Bottle: jet black with a tan head. Hops definitely abound in the aroma with some caramel in the end. Frothy malty flavors with mild hops traveling thru the flavors. A good solid bitter aftertaste. This is not one that you drink quickly.

Dark roasted malt, herbal/earthy hops, cocoa, coffee grinds and a hint of vanilla cap this one off. Definitely appreciated the addition of hops to the regular version which I really didn’t care for. Adds some complexity and brightness. Still, wouldn’t pursue this brew in the future. Just too many great stouts out there.

22oz bottle. 2010 F.H. Edition. Poured into tulip glass. Appearance: Pours a tan/light black from bottle, dark brown/black in glass. Hardly any head and no lacing. Aroma: Caramel, piney hops, sweet oats, vanilla, cereal, roasted hazelnut. Taste: Pretty sweet, chocolate, bitter hops, coffee, brown sugar, slightly "boozy." Palate: Med bodied, creamy, dry, carbonation not too high, the bitter coffee aftertaste lingers around. Overall: It’s delicious, but it has more hop character than I enjoy in my Imp. Stouts. More reminiscent of a black IPA. Worth drinking, but I wouldn’t necessarily buy again when looking for a stout.

22 oz. bottle, pours solid black with substantial tan head. Aroma of bold fresh hops, roasted malt and espresso. Flavour of intense roasted malt, bold fresh hops, burnt espresso, and wood. Dry, intense, roasty palate with tons of depth. Sort of burnt quality on the finish. Delicious.
