this is a middle of the road imperial stout with some peppery roastiness

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2007 22 oz bottle via Mysteryswap (thanks FlacoAlto!).Pours near black with no head. Nose is roasted black patent malt, coffee, and more coffee. Taste starts with some sweet chocolate, then some Italian roasted burnt coffee, some nuts, then some bitter baker’s cocoa and citrus hops. Light carbonation. light body. This is a deathly bold Imp Stout..albeit light bodied and one dimensional, lol. . in otherwords..me almost like..now go pillage One Eye jack’s enemy!!

Courtesy of Pailhead. Pitch black, oily, no head whatsoever. Coats the glass quite nice. Tons of sweet chocolate up front, faint burnt grain and roasted coffee. Tiny bit of alcohol. Really roasty flavor. Lots of grainy malt and coffee. As it warms, tons of alcohol comes through. After aroma, I’m a tad let down overall. Still a decent brew though.

From a bottle shared by iowaherkeye at a tasting. The body was black with a yellowish khaki head on top. The aroma was mushroom with some milk chocolate. There was also some maple and earthy moss. The taste was chocolate with sweet caramel and some peanuts. A decent impy, but the body was not smooth.

Yum. Hoppy but also fairly complex in malt character. Everything is big and fairly balanced. I’ll tell you one thing i’m certain of, this is way better than Abyss everyone keeps raving about.

22 oz bottle. January DMBT. I tried this late in the evening and to be honest, I was trashed by the time I drank this. But, I do remember liking it, although it was way too hoppy for a stout, in my opinion. Still, it was nice, and I would drink it again.

22oz bomber via Naven. Beer 16 of the Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer Tasting 1/12/2007, consumed with many great beer drinkers including Bartzilla, Naven, as well as Lee creator of Arrogant Bastard, and a really cool guy.
Took a swig of this from the bottle near the end of the night. It is really a quite hoppy Imperial Stout. Rich and dark for sure but really hoppy for this style, almost too much.

Duane shared a bomber of this with me. BLACK pour, blacker than most imp. stouts. No head at all. Some coffee and chocolate flavors and aroma, but nothing too strong. Mouthfeel was strange, almost seemed artificially thickened. Lots of hops, but they didn’t mesh well with the other flavors. Interesting stout.

bomber from OhioDad, thanks Scott. this poured as black as any beer I’ve had in awhile with virtually no head. however, as black as it looked it was a bit on the thin side for an Impy. aroma was sweet chocolates and roasted malt. flavor was heavy roasted malts and a strange bitterness on the finish. cool label...aarrrrrrgh

Bomber courtesy of FlacoAlto! Pours a perfect black, with a very thin tan head, which builds for about 10 seconds after it settled. Smells of chocholate and coffee. Very creamy and velvety, full bodied. Tastes of chocolate, and an aftertaste of black licorice. In the description i see that its loaded with hops, and i don’t get the flavor, just the aftertaste. Nice and drinkable, and hides the alcohol well. Just definetly needs more balance.
