22oz bottle. pours pitch black with no head. nose has wonderful dark fruits, roasted malts, and chocolate. first sip and i instantly think this is the stickiest beer i’ve ever had. flavor is very dark fruity with chocolate, pretty roasty, and coffee. alcohol is well hidden i just can’t stand how sticky this is. an above average impy stout.

Black, no head. Nose is cocoa, dark malt, port/plum, no alcohol whatsoever. Flavor is rich malt, tar, coffee, cocoa, some plum/port. Caramel comes in the finish. Not memorable except for the fact that it does such a great job hiding the 11.5%

From a 22oz Bottle. For starters, the cap look like its been crimped with a cheap butterfly capper, complete with opposing edges slightly upturned, desperatly needing a ninety degree rotation and recrimp with the capper. Cracking the cap and not hearing even the faintest whisper of carbonation further wrinkles my brow in concern. Pitch black, oily viscous pour with large bubbles of oxygen left popping on the surface, imitating a head. A light shimmering carbonation slowly rises to the surface, but does not gather there. Lots of high alpha, metallic hops in the nose, along with some stinging alcohols and chewy caramels. Full bodied, slightly sticky, still mouthfeel. Lots of airy hops attack the palate with a heavy, sticky layer of heavily oxidized malt. Too bad, as the malt body shows some promise in the intensity of the roast and char characters that are struggling to overcome the deficiencies. A glimpse of moasses, anise, and smoked meat characters come through on the back end. This one showed some promise, but is unfortunately in desperate need of some carbonation and lack of oxidation to breathe some life into it, especially for the price.

Very complex. It took a lot of thinking to understand this beer, but it was great. The smell was similar to a very small amount of dark corn syrup. Flavour almost has a whipped cream like sweetness along with a slight Jagermeister like finish. Basically, it’s the beer equivalent to curling up with a very complex book.

Bottle thanks to cbkschubert, sampled on 2/3/07: Pours a viscous dark opaque with a thin, spotty off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and dark fruits with a touch of smoke and piny soapy hops. Body starts fairly full and sweet with some drier earthy smoke notes and lots of warming alcohol toward the finish. Needs some more balance and finesse.

Oily black with brown ring on the edges. Roasted cocoa, burnt coffee, cream, and caramel. Taste is more of the same, but the hops give it a little bite. Alcohol is well hidden, but still felt thin. Left me wanting more.

Black body, big bubbled beige head; Great very alcoholic fruity nose, fruity in the way very bitter chocolate can be fruity, fruity in the English licorice can be fruity and fruity like African coffee is fruity, Great; Soft body with almost no carbonation, balanced and quite bitter; Long very hoppy bitter finish, lots of clear hop aromas flowers and sweet pineapple. Balanced and very drinkable beer (Thanks Sk8viking)
