Zinister (894), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Dark as ever with little head. Very nice nose of chocolate, hops, and roasted malts. Flavor is a sweet malt roast that lends itself well to a good hop touch. Nice bitter chocolate finsih.
sunevdj (1550), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Jan 7, 2009 Bottle with the Club. We enjoyed thisone while listening to Black Flag on the stereo. Pours black with a beige head and lacings. Strong smells of hops. Bitter with loads of hops aromas(Chinook?). Tastes like a symbiosis of a IIPA and a Imperial stout. Gave me stupid plastic burbs. ManvsCity (28), Redmond, Washington, USA Jan 5, 2009 Bottle conditioned bomber from Hi Time. Thick and extremely effervescent caramel head fades quickly. Solid black in the body. Faint aromas of well-used leather and the freshness of hops. Dense and creamy mouth feel. Coffee, dark chocolate, smokey malt, more hops at the end. The eleven pct. alcohol is fully felt in the warmth at the finish. Ibrew2or3 (2003), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2008 Courtesy of sebletitje. 2008 vintage pours deep black with nice mocha head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, hints of raisins, burnt malts, faint olive brine, molasses and a leafy hop vegetable note. The mouth feel is somewhat thin to begin but gets creamy into the finish. The taste begins with faint olive brine, over dry hopped vegetable notes and a mild cherry hard candy sensation. It then moves into rich chocolate, burnt malts and lingering bitter hoppiness. Not nearly as hoppy as I was expecting and certainly tastier too. sebletitje (713), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 10, 2008 courtesy of BA trader.
Pours black, brownish head.
Aroma is malty with some nice roastiness.
Taste, hoppy and malty with chocolate, coffee. I found the beer to have a lot of hops, but the overall mouthfeel remained highly enjoyable.
I would drink this one again, under the banner of Jolly Roger.
