presario (2389), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Apr 29, 2008 Bottle. Black with a creamy moderate brown head that fits like a glove. Thick oily cocoa and coffee aroma. Some alcohol in the nose but more subdued than expected. Thin soft alcohol body. Huge alcohol burn and tingle. A boozy oily pint.
Oscbert (190), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 ~Pours black with red tints and big fluffy brown head. Nice lacing.
~Sweet malty aroma with citrusy hops and subtle chocolate.
~Has a hoppy bitter taste followed by some sweet dark chocolate maltiness.
~Medium feel and a bit dry. Bitter dry finish.
~This is quite the brew. It’s like a smoked IPA. I really dig the hoppiness in this. A very different and delicious beer. I would prefer a little more sweetness to balance out the hops. Just a tad though. I do enjoy the bitter bite.
~As the beer warms the chocolate and coffee flavors come out a bit more. When it’s cold it is very hoppy.
GMCC2181 (309), Bear, Delaware, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle shared by robert at state line. Again, this was a unique imperial stout. Dark with a pour that made it look very thick... Taste was sweet with dark fruits. Texture was thick and almost syrup like. This was a unique beer as well. Definitley worth the a buy and try. Thanks robert for all the beers! Gypsy19 (163), AMERICA RISING, USA Jul 12, 2008 Pours a complete opaque black-out with a perfect 1-inch head. There’s really nothing to find wrong with this imperial stout; This stuff is fuckin’ good. A really rich, complex of roasted chocolate, chestnuts, gourmet espresso, tobacco tar, and leather. All that deep funk that one hopes for in an impy. Not too conspicuous on the booze either. Could’ve been a pinch sweeter I think. Other than that, near flawless. Will have again, despite being $10 for a bomber. World class. Nice job, Beer Valley and thank you. badbeer (391), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Black in color, but lacks head retention and lacing which brings this down quite a bit. Smell was burnt and roasty, some chocolate as well. My notes also say the nose was a bit boozy. Taste was roasty, chocolate-y, and has a bit of booze to it as well. I think I recall this one being even downright charred; which was surpisingly good, IMO. Thick mouthfeel, which I love for imperial stouts, but with a little more carbonation this could be great. I rather enjoyed my sample, and I think age would certainly benefit this one quite well, and a little more carbonation would sure help to. I’d get this again given the chance.
Sammy (2969), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 21, 2008 Pours dark and thick. Breathing in chocolate and roast and C-hops. The drink is lunch itself and so very dangerously drinkable. The throast is coated with coconut and oatmeal, roast and some chocolate and coffee. The hops are there and provide some delightful citrus but altogether undistinguishable. Full mouthfeel. Very good IS.
