   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20
3fourths (6399) - Boulder, USA - JAN 11, 2012
bottle. hazy golden amber with a tall and long-lasting off-white head. mild and soft hop aromatics allow the yeast to play: light floral and soap notes but otherwise clean-smelling, though there is some sort of "spice" that actually comes across a bit like turmeric and curry (WTH?). a touch of sweet biscuity malt is allowed to shine given the low hop character (meaning relatively low for IPA). it’s not in your face, it’s not overdone, overhopped, it’s not resinous or sappy, it’s actually quite elegant and beautifully restrained. medium body with some chewiness. somewhat harsh carbonation to go with the moderate hop bitterness, and with a touch of pine resin, but otherwise it’s a nice presentation of sweet honey-tinged cracker malt and soft citrus hops. I do believe this is the first beer from these guys that I find myself enjoying, and it’s bottle-conditioned and unfiltered to boot, and thankfully the unfiltered part isn’t a problem here - the yeast is transparent other than those mild floral and soap notes. well-done.

Koelschtrinker (7034) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAY 24, 2012
Trockener, etwas laffer Hopfenbeginn. Zitrusnoten, Reis. Sehr trockene Holznoten sind permanent vorhanden, eine angenehme Hopfigkeit kann kaum durchdringen. Mild bitterer Ausklang, erst im Nachgeschmack stärker bitter mit angenehm grasigen Noten. OK. 10/8/9/9/9/9

Bottle from Olbutikken. Slight haze on this amber beer. Good white head. Creamy pale malt, a little raw grain. Hops are piney with mild orange marmalade. Finishes soft and dry with a mildly bitter aftertaste, Alright but a little too malt led for me.

Bottle. Golden, hazy, average to large and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty - lightly grainy and caramel sweetish aroma, light tropical fruitiness, piney and some grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, sweetish and malty - lightly grainy and sweetish flavor, some caramel, light fruitiness and some piney and grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, sweetish with caramel, some piney - grapefruit hoppyness. Caramel sweetish IPA. OK but nothing really special - could use more hoppyness (and less caramel).
