On tap at parkway in Tacoma: no real aroma to speak of other than a hint of caramel. Bitter rosin taste with a filmy aftertaste. Cloudy oak appearance with little head. Not a keeper.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DuffMan (4422) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 26, 2011
Bottle, shared with JJ. Medium copper gold with a bid load of dirty sediment at the end that makes the beer look like diarrhea. Aroma is toasty toffee with light floral hops in the background. Very malt forward, which I am normally happy about, but the hops here are almost an afterthought by IPA standards. Their pale ale seemed hoppier to me.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 FlacoAlto (3143) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - JUN 10, 2011
Sampled on tap at 1702 Tucson, AZ; May 2011
The beer arrives with a murky amber color, that shows a touch of copper to it when held up to the light. It is topped by a frothy, dense, light tan colored head that leaves some nice lacing on the sides of my glass. The nose smells of a mix of crystal malt and hops, and is definitely a bit too malty for an IPA that fits my ideal; the crystal malt focus is really what I could personally do without. The hops contribute aromas of grapefruit zest, a slightly metallic note as well as some herbal character and a fair amount of pine aromatics. Not a horrible nose by any means, but it does have a bit too much crystal malt.
The flavor lives up to the promise of the nose with lots crystal malt derived flavors; this is certainly toasty, with a sweet tea like flavor as well as ample notes of caramelized bread character. The hop character is well (perhaps even overly) balanced by the malt character, but one certainly notices flavors of orange zest, pine, and a general herbal character as well as a solid bitterness. The bitterness in the finish can be a bit harsh and vegetal at times. The body of this is not overly heavy, especially considering the crystal malt, but isn’t quite as light as I would prefer.
In the end this beer is just a bit too discordant; the crystal malt character clashes with the hop notes, and even the hop character alone can get a bit jarring.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 riversideAK (4553) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - APR 26, 2011
Nose has a decent amount of maltiness - dough, caramel, toast, some residual sugar notes. Floral peppery hops, a little citrus here and there. Pours murky amber, big fluffy creamy head and sticky icky lace. The flavor stats malty with dough, caramel and toast followed by floral hops in the finish. Hop bitterness and flavor is about a 4 out of 10. More on the malty side, not necessarily sweet but definitely malty. Somewhat chewy with a lightly dry finish. Not my favorite.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BillKismet (2753) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 22, 2011
Rich bronze amber body with a fluffy, off-white head. Candi sweet hop nose that is moderately resinous. Amber malt and biscuit backbone with some sweetness and a moderately resinous hop flavor. Biscuity finish. This is a well-balanced, hoppy amber.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 marcus (4050) - Sacramento, California, USA - MAR 27, 2011
Bottle from Taylor’s Market, Sacramento. Poutes copper with a foamy beige head and a citrus aroma. There is a robust caramel malt flavor with a lot of resinous hop bitterness. The finish is spoiled by a very harsh piney taste on the palate. Starts good ends badly.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (7577) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 25, 2011
Bomber from Taylor’s Market in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy copper with a creamy/bubbly off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt. Not getting hop. Flavor starts with roast caramel, then some piney earthy hop comes along. Disappointing, given their earlier efforts. The aroma and the flavor are just a tad papery, over toasted. Finishes with an irritating sweet aspect. I know there’s hop in here, but it just doesn’t work for me. Having just had a super IPA, this one may be suffering by comparison. So sad. Too bad.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 IndianaRed (1734) - Boise, Idaho, USA - FEB 23, 2011
On Tap at Brewforia Beer market, Meridian, ID. Cloudy deep copper color witha full off-white head. Big piney hop aroma and a soapy, piney very sharp hop flavor. More bitterness than flavor. Strongly bitter, which is OK but in a harsh soapy way. Moderate malt body, and a stinging bitter bite at the end. Just OK
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 johnbuck100 (85) - Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 20, 2011
Bomber. Best part of this IPA is the label. Beautiful Label. The chunks of yeast in this unfiltered IPA give the beer a very earthy flavor. A decent IPA, but in a state of exemplary IPA’s this one falls in the lower third.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aubrey (3191) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JAN 19, 2011
Decent IPA. Nice looking, with a frothy head and a cloudy amber-red hue. Perhaps a bit too malt forward, overall, though its malt flavors were nice (caramel and toffee and fresh toast). Hops were very citrusy, with big notes of grapefruit and orange rind, in particular. Some curious notes of citric sourness. Mild sweetness; moderate bitterness. Zingy and snappy.
