COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night with a rich creamy head. Brewed with oatmeal and roasted malts for a smooth, velvety flavor. This beer is served unfiltered to add to its characteristic creaminess.

Draft at brewpub awhile back. Pours black with tan head. Nose/taste of roasted chocolate and black malts, flaked barley, oats and light coffee. Creamy mouth feel. Medium body.

Tap at Canal Street location. Nitro. Served in a 16 oz. English pint glass. Standard roast, chocolate, and coffee nose. Average aroma’s. Flavor was a bit better than I expected. Much better roasted malt then the nose would lead you to believe. Coffee and a bit of oats can be detected. Mildly sweet finish. The only downfall is a thin body. If they produced more body and creaminess to this stout it could be a homerun. Still a tad above average.

On nitrogen so it will prolly make this beer better. Very creamy coffee with a little bit of chocolate. Coffee really stays in your throat. No real aroma however, so it gets knocked for that

tap at Canal St. location - Pours very dark brown with a roast malt aroma that has a hint of coffee. The flavor is of roast malt, coffee with the dark roast taking on an almost smoky character. It’s good.

On draft in Salem. Poured a pitch black color, head was thin and lacing only average. The aroma was all chocolate. The flavor followed, chocolate most strong, faint faint roast in the background with some ash, but neither really making a prominent play. The porter had more character. Carbonation low, body moderate to sticky.

From tap at Canal Street. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is mild roasted malty. Light sweet caramelish flavoured, light bitterness to it. Smooth mouthfeel, light dark malt and caramelish into a light sweet finish.

Had a tall one of these off tap at the Fennway location. Pretty deep and dark with a foaming tan head. The aroma was not very strong but had a decent fresh malt to it as well as some chocolate. The taste was bit on the coffee side with some of the malt mixed in but I also got some acidic tin finish. I realize that beer works is mostly a restaurant meant to serve the fan base and want to make easy to drink and sessionable beers but a stout should have much more body than this.

On tap at Beer Works Logan Airport. Pours very dark brown in color with a creamy yellowish-tan head and good lacing. Aroma is somewhat standard roast, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor is also roast, chocolate, and coffee, mildly sweet with low bitterness and a very slight acrid note. Overall good though. Velvety texture with medium body for the style. Pretty good but not great overall.

On tap during the annual Boston/Salem/Marble head tour. Salem Beer works. Medium black appearence with chocolate malt and smoke aroma. I found the taste with hints of roast but a little thin and watery. I was not too impressed.

On tap at the Fenway location. Color is close but not quite jet black. Great chewy oatmeal malt and grain flavors. More roasted malt as it passes over the palate and a bittersweet chocolate, coffee, sort of bitterness on the finish. A little bit of redemption with this one.
