2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, USA - JUN 14, 2007
Draught snifter at Fenway on 5/25/07 It seems like at least every other time I’m at BW, they’ve got a Belgian golden ale on tap and every time it’s a different name. I havent entered them all and I just fail to believe that they are changing the recipes that significantly each time. I see that this one is quite a bit higher in abv though, so why not... Fluffy white head is fairly persistent, but leaves only minor lacing. Mostly clear, deep gold body with moderate carbonation. About as standard and by-the-numbers BSGA as I can recall. Good enough interpretation of Duvel, but without the richness of malt, yeast intricacy and expressive carbonation of that one. It’s clean enough, but there’s a fair amount of acid on the finish, which also seems to have some problems with wateriness. Sweet, honey-like sugars build up with light toasted notes, resulting in a soft, somewhat malty mouthfeel (though the wateriness is evident). Light, grassy/flowery hops and just your basic yellow fruit esters with light phenolics. Alcohol well-contained.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 ShawnMalloy (124) - Auburn, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 9, 2007
This Belgian is real spiced up. Packs a punch that leaves that warm tingle in your stomach. Pours a nice bubbly golden tinge. Incredibly pleasing aroma for the first few tastes. Towards the bottom I became rather uninterested. Great to see such class produced in Salem, MA.

On draft at Fenway Park location. A clear light gold with puny head. Brewed in celebration of the Canal St. location’s sixth anniversary. Faintly sweet nose. Ripples of flavor include bubblegum, citrus, and melon. Flavor ends on a high note of hops and malt sweetness.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (4828) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 27, 2007
Sample at Beer Works Fenway: This beer pours a clear golden color with a thin ivory head that disappears quickly. S[ptty lacing. The aroma is floral hops and yeast, with touches of fruit. Light body with a floral character and mild hops and toasted malt flavor. Light yeast is present too. The finish is lightly yeasty with a slight peppery hops finish. Slightly above average overall.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 31, 2007
Tap at the Canal Street location - served in a tulip glass, which is the first time I’ve seen a beer served here in other than a pint glass (and I’ve had the Herc and Double IPA) - perfectly clear golden pour, with minimal head - served way too cold - bright, floral, fruity aroma, with some candi sugar sweetness - very light and crisp - minimal sweetness, with no apparent alcohol - mild herbal and floral qualities, with some spice on the back of the tongue - finishes with light belgian yeast flavors - a bit thin, but refreshing for a strong ale.
