3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, USA - JUL 2, 2008
Tap at Fenway. Pours a hazy coppery color with a fizzy head, and no lace. Aroma is wit-yeast like with spicy phenols ligth doughy wheat and some stale crackers. Peppery and lemon zest in the flavor, light crackery malts, some esters- banana and some solvent. Not much going on here and didnt strike me as a saison at all.

Bubble gum esters hang on the tongue, no spice and not dry enough for the style

POured burnt amber. The notes of wheat and citrus dominate in the nose and the palate. The finish shows a decent amount of malts and sweetness.

UPDATED: OCT 31, 2007 Draught tulip at Fenway on 6/30/07 Peach with bright golden tints and a high clarity. Off white head is small and recedes to ring fairly rapidly. Little lacing. Not sure what’s new with this. It dosent have any apparent American twist. It’s got the basic qualities of a saison, but how do I convey this? It just dosent have any good qualities. No bad ones, but no good ones. Rather uninspiring flavors of citrus, nutty wheat, very bland, lightly doughy yeast and too much bubblegum and banana. The attenuation is about the only strong point, but that dosent really do much when there’s no real interesting flavors to be displayed on the dry body. Too much nuttiness, light breadiness and overdone, crude esteriness. No alcohol noted, medium amounts of somewhat loose carbonation. Next.

Tap @Salem Beer Works. Pours an orange-amber with a slight, quickly-dissipating off-white head. Aroma is wheat, citrus, coriander, and slight bubblegum. Taste is malty, with fruit and spice notes thrown in as well. A pretty good take on the style.
