Our black ale has a bit of a kick. We add dried red chillies to the fermenter for a hint of fruit, and to create a dry, spicy finish.

Bottled, medium sample. Dark brown color, short frothy head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark bread. Bit malty bitter in taste, slight chili burn. Beer itself is a bit watery, lacks body, but the balance with the peppers is good. They give a soft spicy touch to it without overpowering the beer.

Bottle shared @ weekly tasting. Pitch black color, medium sized light brown color. Smell and taste malts, hops, peppers, light to moderately roasty. Moderate to heavy pepper / chili finish. Nit my kind of beer, too much for me.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Fruity, dark malty aroma with a smoky touch, a peppery chili note causes a minimal prick in the nose, some dark chocolate. Taste is dry dark malty, slightly roasty, a peppery chili note, dark chocolate, cautious hints of red berries; the chili adds up to a constant, lasting prickling note, lively carbonation. I like the adding of chili.

Good thick, dense dark cream head over unclear deep redbrown to black beer. Dark malts, chocolate, mole, fresh herbs, cocoa powder, black cardemome, dry hops. Dry, cocoapowder, spicy, herbal; some sweetness and again dry hops. Heat, peppery, chillies arrive more in the MF/aftertaste, leaving a hot feeling, thankfully not overdone. Titillating carbonation, soon overcome by the bone-dry character; medium bodied. Still a beer - difficult to achieve with chilipepper addition. Good, and indeed with a kick.

Bottle. A really dark brown one, looking unclear, and with a dense, finger-thick dark beige head. The aroma has some herbal chili notes, with roasted malts, coffee and some dark chocolate. There’s some chili burn on the palate, but not much. Full body, semi-dry and with a nice carbonation level. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and some chili in the flavor. Lasting roasted finish with chili, coffee and roasted malts. A really balanced chili stout that I could have several times. 140118
