3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle courtesy of Ann. Pretty medium colored for a dark beer, transparent tan-brown color. Mild sugary sweet aroma. Toasty, some mild dark chocolate tastes. Iíd drink the hell out of this beer if I resided in Laos. Smooth, with a quality mouthfeel. This is pretty harshly underrated. A nice Schwarzbier all the way.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Light brown color with an aged ivory colored head. Aromas of cocoa and dark caramel. Iím catching some sharpie scents as well. Flour glue and light alcohol flavors. Bits of toasted grain and wild honey. Lifeless fell. Not real clean and as close to glue as Iíve had since kindergarten.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle - Had at Thai restaurant. Basically what you might expect from a dark lager brewed in Laos and served at a Thai restaurant. Thin, mild body, and good with spicy thai food.

1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
UPDATED: APR 11, 2010 The best Laotian beer I have ever tasted. of course, also the ONLY one. A thin, dark, watery beer with barely perceptible hops. No need to search for more Laotian beer.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle from SL I think. No idea why this is categorized as a schwarzbier, a swill variant of a dunkel at best. Pour was clear brown with a thin but well sustaining head that was only slightly off-white. The aroma was corn with toasty notes some chocolate. The flavor followed, dry caramel, chocolate, nuts, toasted off corn, fruity type notes. The last two just ruined anything dunkel under this whole thing. Mouthfeel was light. This was Laosian dark Budweiser. Oh well, another country to tick.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2010 Beerlao Dark is near and dear to my heart. Too bad it is impossible to find in the states. 330 mL bottle (the only thing it comes in as far as I know). Pours a clear, dark red with a very thin off-white head. Okay lacing. Aroma is slightly skunked with some lighted roasted malt, honey, and caramel. Very unpredictable and can range from a skunked soy sauce to a great, chocolatey dark beer. Very smooth and light on the palate. Lots of rice in the background and a bit of balancing hops. Alcohol is not entirely masked but is not warming. Overall, the best beer you will find in SE Asia.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body with a thin, wispy, off-white head.
Smell: Light toasty maltiness with maybe, just maybe, a faint touch of chocolate.
Taste: Lightly toasty malts and more of that world-famous Laotian rice with a slight sugary sweetness. Small hint of cocoa powder. Very light hop bitterness. Finishes relatively sweetish.
Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: Delightfully tolerable! And here I was worried a tolerable beer from Laos would be as incredibly rare a find as the Laotian Rock Rat.

330ML bottle. Light brown and clear. Skunky hop aroma. some roasted cereal and rice. Soy sauce for coloring. Flavor of corn and rice. Not too far from a Soy sauce colored Miller Lite. Surprisingly better than expected.
